DVDs on Ebay - all free delivery?

Hi - are all the dvds listed on ebay supposed to be free delivery or not (for uk normal delivery, listed by seller in uk)? I noticed that most say free delivery however one item I bid on at the last minute had 'courier' in as postage but no amount noticeable - after winning and cheaking further I notice they say in small print that they charge £3.00 postage for 1st class recorded in uk (only uk postage option available). Surely they should also offer a free p&p option too as ebay say all in dvd category should or do I have that wrong? I will still buy the item as its something I really want, but its not as much of a bargain as expected and although the ebay invoice has come through with only item price and free postage I suspect the seller will add on this 'hidden' postage amount. I dont mind if seller offers faster or optional delivery services for a higher charge but I thought the whole point of free p&p categories was so that at least one basic postage option was free. Any feedback or clarification would be appreciated - thanks.

ADDED - forgot to say, in the main ebay search pages it showed high up the results as the price incl p&p (when you put things in this order to see total cost) showed up as the purchase price only as there was no amount entered in the p&p section at all. With this extra p&p cost added on there were 5 other auctions that worked out cheaper.

Yes they are free delivery. If they try and charge you extra don;t pay it they are not allowed to. Just pay the amount you won it for via auction (so don't pay via an invoice they send pay via ebay page). Then if the refuse to send after 7 days open claim for item not received and your get refunded. Then neg them

Pay the price it states in your "my ebay" page and no more.

If they argue open a dispute after 7 days to get your money back and neg' them.

I've had the same problem 1/2 a dozen times with PS3 games.

As they said 'courier' with no amount in the p&p section instead of the normal 'free p&p' that most others say I wondered if they are allowed to charge an amount by claiming its a courier delivery although if thats the only delivery option they offer then that should be free anyway I would have thought. In the description they do say at the bottom that its 1st class recorded for £3 so definately not courier anyway. Have paid via paypal so if they refund i'll open the dispute but thought I should check with the forum incase there was some 'courier delivery' exemption from the free p&p option. Thanks for replies, hopefully I will get the item for the advertised price but if the seller plays hard-ball as I suspect they will, is there a section on ebay that states there must be a free delivery option in the dvd category? Had a look but cant see anything to show him if needs be.

I must admit, i've sold things in the free p/p catergory and put courier and then in my listing stated the price for p/p.

Luckily have only done this 3 times, as i hadn't sold stuff in these now free p/p catergories for awhile so didn't know it was enforced, i thought i was doing something wrong and was getting so frustrated that i couldn't enter my p/p charge so just selected courier and put in the listing what the p/p cost was.

Obviously haven't done this since and stuck to the free p/p like it said.

However i must of been extremely lucky as those 3 times i did state what the p/p was each buyer paid it and never had any issue about it.

Well as expected I received a message saying I had forgot to pay the postage so could I paypal it to xxx@xxxx

Hi - on double checking I saw that you mention a delivery cost in your description however ebay now says the initial postage method in the dvd category must be free p&p - when I viewed the auction nothing came up for delivery and anyway only additional delivery services can be charged for i.e. the first option must be free. This can be seen on ebay here: http://www2.ebay.com/aw/uk/200810.shtml#2008-10-13101419 or you can contact them for confirmation. If you offer free standard postage you can then charge more for courier or next day etc, but your first postage option has to be free on all dvd listings and the total I paid was the amount emailed to me by ebay as the total amount due - sorry.

I hunted high and low but could not find anything else on ebay showing the compulsory free postage on dvd but could see it started from January this year. If needs must I will pay the postage as I did bid before realising there was postage charge in the body of the auction (although nothing when you clicked on postage at top of auction) but its annoying as I could have got a new/unused dvd for cheaper from other sellers who had a higher 'buying' price than this auction but then they were abiding by the free postage rule.

Why pay for something you don't have to?

Just pay the price showing in "my ebay".

I know but I think he will refund the payment as I have not included his postage - if he does I will buy from one of the other sellers as they will work out cheaper than his auction if he is insisting on his postage being added on. I sent paypal payment as soon as auction ended and paid the amount shown on my ebay -the item was under £5 so I dont think they will send it without me paying the extra postage. I have left a neg or neutral in the past when its deserved and although I am annoyed he did not mention the postage in the correct place I dont think I can neg him as he did mention it in his auction and I should have read it fully before bidding (only saw auction within less than a min to go so swooped without reading so partly my fault). Will see what his reply to my message is - if he's reasonable I may pay him part postage but if he all aggro then I will reflect that in feedback.

So you don't think someone ripping you off deserves a neg?

Its not that - I think he is wrong to not mention postage in the correct place but I think I need to take some of the blame for not reading the auction before bidding. If he did not mention postage at all I would definately neg however it could be a genuine mistake as an earlier poster on here did - simply a case of not knowing that dvds were now free postage. I will know more when I can gauge the tone of his reply and if its a genuine mistake then a neutral to alert others to check but that wont affect his rank seems ok. If he insists on the extra postage, is rude, blames me or simply refuses to sell then it would warrant a neg i think.

'Free P&P' , just one reason sellers are leaving feebay at the rate of 1500 a week.
Personally, I always chech the postage costs of an item & add them in to the initial listing fee. I also only list when feebay are doing a 'free listing day/week/month'.
