I have a new laptop and a new iPod (3rd gen shuffle).
Everything has been going fine for a couple of months, but over the past few days, evertime I plug my iPod into the laptop, I get a blue screen and it restarts (the laptop that is).
Any idea what the problem could be?

try changing the usb port are you plugging the ipod into
long shot - but what can happen is that you loose the cap for the usb port pins. Which in turn may accidentally bend one of the pins in the port.I feel like the day he died0 -
Thanks, I tried all that already. It's not helping unfortunately.0

How about a factory reset of the ipod? To do this, I think you need to press both the select key and the play (Might be menu key, but I don't think so!) button at the same time for 6 seconds.Northern Ireland club member No 382 :j0

Browtoa, I will try another PC.
Money_grabber, it's a shuffle and only has an on/off button (I like your signature by the way, I work for Aviva and you have no idea how annoying it was to answer the phones 'Norwich Union soon to be Aviva' for so many months! :-) ).0 -

I've heard stories about the 1st and 2nd gen, but this is a 3rd and I thought they were supposed to be ok.0

Oh yes, that's right you did mention it was a shuffle!:o Does it bring up an error message briefly, before restarting? If so, you could get the error code and type it into google. If it doesn't stay up long enough, then there is some way of preventing it restarting, but I can't just remember off hand what that is!
Aviva don't seem to cover in Northern Ireland anymore though, which is a bit odd, because my sister is insured with them, but they always have "not applicable in Northern Ireland" on their offers!Northern Ireland club member No 382 :j0 -
@saffmonster
It is possible to restore your shuffle to factory settings.
The information is in this link:-
http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1481
I have a generation 2 shuffle, when I restored mine I used some software from apple which 'flashed' it. But I can't find the link to it any more.
Perhaps using the method in my link above is safest.Never interrupt your enemy when he is making a mistake.0
