My OH's mum has a lodger at the moment - an if he took even HALF the liberties yours does then he would be kicked out!!

Firstly - your tv is YOUR domain - he has a tv in his room, he should watch it there, or at the very least ask to change channels on yours. I think you were very generous offering him the upgrade for his room.

My MIL hardly sees her lodger - he is either at work or sticks to his room, where he has a tv and various home comforts. He only has to clear up his own mess though, not hoover or anything (only hs room) but she does his washing for him while he is at work if he brings it downstairs.

Thanks to everyone for all your advice

I know I've "created" this situation, guess i just wanted an easy life and wanted an easy going Landlord/Lodger situation.

Like i said before, I have to get my head around the Landlord/Lodger thing. I've always been a lodger myself, and had easy going Landlords but then again i've always had respect. I would never dream of asking mates to stay over.

The rent is £70 pw, thinking of increasing it slightly to cover the costs of increased bills and will start to buy all the coffee/milk etc myself. The increased rent will cover this. It is a little cheaper than the area but he is a sort of a mate, plus the house does need lots of modernisation. All cosmetic though, new kitchen etc.

I do prefer his money in my hand, as i use this to live on, part of my "get out of debt" plan

I do think that his room is "out of bounds", he pays his rent, that is his space. I would never dream of entering it. As long as when he leaves it is left in similar condition to when he moved in.

He does do some chores, just untidy at times. Iam starting to think that i will do all the cleaning, as it is my hosue after all, as long as he tidys up after himself.

Thanks for the suggestion about the WHsmiths book, think i will look into that

Will tackle a few of the other issues too, afterall it is my house, not a shared one. Not sure where he would store all his posessions though, he has come from shared houses and gathered lots of stuff over the years.

thanks again, big learning curve here,

    been a great help

Sounds like you're beginning to think like a landlady who has a lodger :T

Sounds like he's going to have to rent a lockup, buy himself a shed and put it up in your garden, or downsize :rotfl:
