Well we must have been very fortunate then as the layout was not like that. Its not misinformation if its the facts of the case.

What type of plane were you on? It should tell you on your booking if you are not sure. Alternatively, we can check from the flight number?

It is misinformation as you claimed that the restricted exit row seat wasn't actually restricted at all. I'm just pointing out that the exit row window seat most definitely has restricted legroom.

Can you use seatguru and tell us which plane config you were on which didn't have restricted legroom on the exit row window seat ?

Looks like it is a A343 that serves the Boston route. The only exit row in economy is row 50, with seats A and K being restricted by the slide.

vflyer tells me that it's an A340-600 83% of the time on the BOS-LHR route.
Front exit rows (row18) is premier economy, and rear (row51) are economy. Very clearly on the seating map it displays the restriction on the exit row seat http://www.v-flyer.com/seats.asp?search=yes&pid=12

Yes malkie, - pmsl - get a life.

This started out just asking about upgrades being possible. I pointed out we were asked for $400 each to upgrade. !!!!!! everyone jumped on the aside about bargaining for exit seats, I dont know and to be honest dont care. I cant remember the seat numbers, I cant remember what films we saw, I can remember the name of the steward and how nice it was chatting to him and what a relief it was not having to be squashed behind another seat. And I cant understand why its so damn important to nit pick.

I have work to do now. I shall refrain from interfering with your so knowledgeable clique in future.

Purely to inform other posters, before they expect to get the same treatment / experience on something which isn't the standard. It's about managing the expectations of those who use these boards to coordinate travel.

Had they only read your post claiming that there was no restriction on the exit window seat they may have paid Virgin additional money then been extremely disappointed.

If someone posts something which is inaccurate it's in interests of the posters to have it put right.

There are no logic or sense to upgrades. The best way to think of them are gifts from the Airline Gods. Don't expect them and asking for them is unlikely to help and may make you less likely to get them.

I'm Silver with BA now and get the occasional upgrade but back when I was Blue I once got a WT to CW upgrade during the online check-in. I was also once upgraded at the boarding gate during one of the baggage handling strikes - the attendant said that I had been the first person that day not to swear at her.

BA will sometimes offer WT to WTP upgrades for £50-100 depending on how busy they are. WTP is better than cattle but I'm not sure it's worth £100 of my own money more.

I've been on flights to and from NZ on several occasions and noticed passengers being upgraded. I noticed, because I knew their names: they were professors on their way to conferences (I heard them being called out as professors too, so they had used the title on their tickets). And then they vanished and I didn't see them on the plane. I know they wouldn't have been flying anything other than economy on their uni expenses, so I think it was a status thing.
