I've just got my first harvest!!!
A little handful (lol) of spinach leaves to go in a curry later on as part of my May Storecupboard challenge!!
Everything else is coming along nicely; my tomatoes
have come on leaps and bounds in the last week - not as strong as some of the photos on this thread, but they are doing OK.
I've finally found my strawberry seeds, but and my dad thinks it's OK to sow them now, even though the packet said just 'til April - do you guys agree, or will I be wasting my seeds (which will last til 2008 according to the packet).0 -
annie, I'd give it a go - what have you got to lose? And if it works then there's something else you have learned.
I'm about to stick more pumpkin seeds in to replace the ones that haven't grown yet.Organised people are just too lazy to look for things

Thanks Moggins
A tip for you - pumpkin seeds take ages to come up - before you plant more, just check by tipping out a couple of the failed ones. When I was 'recycling' the compost I had used to plant my gourds, I found that most had actually started to sprout but were still below surface level... after a month or so of no show!0 -
thanks annie, I'll leave them alone for a bit longer then and wait and see.Organised people are just too lazy to look for things

Moggins are the pumpkin seeds inside or outside?0

They're outside but in a mini-greenhouse.Organised people are just too lazy to look for things

Maybe you could try wrapping them up a bit. Mine were by the window inside, sealed inside a plastic bag and they only took about a week or 10 days. Maybe yours have a chill0

Hi everyone,
I have a dumb question about courgettes, well several actually. Never having actually seen a courgette plant, only the courgettes themselves, I don't know what they look like. The ones I planted about a month ago are like triffids! They were sprouting virtually as they hit the compost.
Do I stake them like tomato plants? They are falling over as the leaves are so big and heavy but I'm not sure if they are supposed to be upright or pendulous (big word ration all used up now!). How high do they grow? Do I have to pinch out side shoots like with tomatoes? Also, will they grow outside in the North of England or do they need to be kept in the greenhouse? Sorry about all the questions but I don't want to get it wrong.

Moggins, my gourds were in the mini-greenhouse and appeared not to be sprouting. I brought the remaining ones in for a week (after chucking a few ou and realising too late they weren't dead!) and now they are back out and sprouting like crazy!!0

I'll be interested in this answer too as I just saw a cougette plant in the garden centre and the size of that one scared me and it must only be small. lol.I've been lucky, I'll be lucky again. ~ Bette Davis0
