Morning I've looked at various posts on here which are similar to mine but with one big exception. we left virgin about a year ago but for some reason my ntlworld account is still working and receiving emails fine although I'm unable to send them. But over the last 3 days I've been unable to receive my emails as I get a pop up saying "please enter your username and password for popntlworld.com". I've no idea of my password and have never had to use it. I saw in one of the other posts a link to Virgin's website for if you'd forgotten your password but when I entered my user name it said the account had been disabled. I want to be able to carry on using it though. I've had various unsuccessful attempts at trying to change my password but of course you need to know the existing one to be able to change it. Please could anyone help me in very layman's terms please as I'm a computer dummy. thanks

If you leave an ISP, you lose your email.0

Agree with the previous post, in some cases, addresses seem to remain active for receiving, but eventually will die.
Possibly VM keep them open for a year.
Another reason to use an isp idependant email address, e.g. Googlemail.Move along, nothing to see.0 -
but it's over a year since we left Virgin and it's worked fine up until this week. My OH's is working find and he's able to send emails as well.0

sorry spud 17 I must have been writing mine at the same time as you! so you just think it's taken this long for it to be ceased. I should open another account anyway as it's a pain not being about to send emails. It is easy to open a hotmail account?0

They can stay active for years, depends on the ISP.
Just switch to Googlemail (much superior to Hotmail), then you can switch ISP's as often as you like and you never have to worry again.
Just open the account and then set it up to download into Outlook Express/Windows Mail or whatever email program you are using. No free lunch, and no free laptop

I gave it a go and - the first problem I've encountered is that of course I can't access the link from googlemail which they have sent to my existing email address to start the registration process. Anyway round this?0

Sign up to hotmail free account and use that as your way to get gmail.
then you have two accounts, use whichever.0 -
I've tried to set up a hotmail account. It gave a xxxx.live.co.uk email address. Is this correct? When I accessed my new live.co.uk address the inbox had emails that had been sent to my ntlworld account for about 6 weeks from dec 08 to Jan 09. No sign of being able to access my googlemail new account as I asked the email to be sent to my live.co.uk account and it has not appeared so I can't access it. I told you I was useless at computers.0

You don't have to give a backup address.
I've set up several Gmail addresses for various people, and never had a problem, despite leaving said box blank.
The account has always been active by the time you log in to it.
Just seen your post, have you tried logging in HERE with your user name (leave off googlemail.com) and password.Move along, nothing to see.0
