Baxi or glow worm.

Ive had a couple of quotes for a new central heatng sytem one using a baxi 105HE condensing boiler & the other a glow worm Betacom 24kw. Which of these is the better boiler. Ive read mixed reviews on the baxi on the net but cant seem to find any reviews on the glow worm. Is this because they never go wrong or no one bys them. Please help.

In a simple one word answer - 'neither'

Do a search on this site and you will see the recommendations from people who install boilers for a living.

Warm Front love to push both these boilers - so if its them that are recommending them then forget it - generally the whole Warm Front scheme is a rip off!

Do another search on this site and elsewhere on that subject as well.

I second that! If its a combi boiler your talking about, then sadly there is no such luck as a reliable boiler i'm afraid. I have heard "better" report on Valiant and Worcester boilers but its confsing as you'll find each engineer and forums recommend different boilers. Generally the more expensive the boiler brand, the more reliable. Yet Goldworm and Baxi were once reliable at making system / back boilers.

I think the problem is that many of the old 'traditional' boiler manufacturers have been bought out, merged etc. So, say, the Baxi of yesteryear could be any other make with a different label stuck on(just an example - no idea who makes Baxi now)

It is simply 'Badge Engineering' and the fact that anyone has a 15 year old ultra reliable boiler made by firm xxxx is no indication that firm xxxx are still making reliable boilers.

In any case it is a racing certainty that many of the parts are common 'bought in' items - particularly the electronics.

As said above neither, worcester are a quality boiler ;)
  • neither, baxi and glow worm boilers are cheap to buy at the moment for good reason. worcester and vaillant are best stuck to. I install around 60 worcesters a year, last year 1 was faulty on installation.

agree worcester are reliable, although I myself have a ferroli sytem boiler and took out the annual warranty contract (£12.00 a month) peice of mind a good value as I have had to call them out and have the gas valve replaced. I have had the boiler now for 4 years ( first 2 years covered by manufacter warranty) and very reliable in my eyes, but everyone is different and everyone will have there own experience, stick to the houdehold names and you will not go far wrong

    regards
