Try a mineral foundation - very easy to apply and build up more coverage where needed without looking caked

Do you know if you have rosacea?

Thanks I've just been looking at some sample colours on elemental beauty. I am not sure what rosacea looks like so I'll google some images in a minute - how would I know?

Edit: No fortunately I don't think it is rosacea, my skin is a bit sensitive and I have some small broken veins too.

  • On the tinted moisturiser front, I like B Never Too Busy To Be Beautiful's - comes in several different shades and lasts a long time. However if you're not in/near London, Leeds or Bournemouth you may have to order it online, and you will possibly need primer as well as it can melt off. It's not cheap either at £20 a bottle. For a cheapo version Boots' Natural Collection one is OK at £2 a tube.

I've just discovered the boots no 7 one, had a trial size and liked it so much i bought the full size, i'm quite pale and have a few dark marks left from spots, i was surprised by the coverage, still needed a little bit of rimmel concealer though. In the past i've used a nivea one but it didn't cover well. I also had a estee lauder sample which was really nice, the colour was a little dark for me though and i bet it would cost quite a bit. People did comment that i had a healthy glow about me when i wore the no7 and estee lauder tinted moisturisers, usually i wear thick matt makeup. However this week i'm spotty so have gone back to thick foundation, until my skin clears up, i'm pregnant so i don't think its anything to do with the tinted moisturisers.

missm - Did you just ask for the No7 sample or was it in a GWP? I wonder if I need a concealer but that is a world I have not ventured into since my teenage years, are they still like lipsticks and difficult to blend?

I can wholeheartedly recomend Laura Mercier, but it's not cheap. It does last for ages though. Amazing light but flawless coverage, very 'dewy' looking and feels good to wear.

It was a gwp sample, but i have asked for samples of foundation in the past and they put a little bit in a pot, which lasts a couple of days.

I've put mine on today even though i'm quite spotty, i don't have that pregnancy glow people talk about. I'm not going out but if someone knocks the door they will thing im ill without my make up and you know what with a little bit of rimmel concealer i look ok and its not gone flaky round my spots like a foundation would. Tescos, benefit and bobbi brown do nice concealers but rimmel is just as nice, cheaper and can be bought in many places.

Have you thought about using a serum to fade the dark marks? i flick between clinique and no7 depending on the funds available, i certainly notice my skin looking different when i run out. I always use a high spf too on sunny days, clinique do a spf 40.

The boots no 7 tinted moisturiser is about £10 but if you spend £5 on other bits in boots you get a £5 off no7 voucher meaning you could get it for £5. By the way i consider myself fair skinned but the sample was medium and was fine for me.

I've used Body Shop, Nivea and Boots No 7 tinted moisturisers, but by far the best one of all is the Vichy Lumineuse. It is light and luminous; your skin really does glow. I tried a Laura Mercier one that all the magazines raved about ('cos they get free samples no doubt) and it was not as good imo.

My skin is in good condition so I don't need huge coverage, so not sure how any tinted moisturisers would work to conceal redness/spots etc. Also, mineral makeup is not for everyone. I personally can't stand the brushes you have to use and the mess in the bathroom afterwards.

I know you said cheap and this one isn't really all that cheap but Laura Mercier's tinted foundation is the best one out there I think :) I've tried a fair few :p
Just because you made a mistake doesn't mean you are a mistake.
  • You rebel by benefit is quite good and comes in a light shade too as i find the normal one quite dark. is quite pricey around £19 but they will always try it on you first before you buy things there and occasinally give you a sample.
  • I would recommend Nº 7 tinted moisturiser too. I bought a Clarins one once but you have to apply it very quickly or it goes patchy so I wouldn´t buy that again, even though I usually like Clarins products. The Nº7 ones have SPF too, which is important.
