clarification of mobile cashback deals

Hi,

I have been PAYG for years. My mobile got nicked and now I'm up for a good deal.

Looking at the cashback deals, such as found on e2save and coolnewmobile I have a question:

If I take out a 12 month contract with 12 months cashback claims spread over the months, as here:
http://www.coolnewmobile.co.uk/index2.asp?submit.x=50&submit.y=10&id=322

The tarrif is "Orange OVP Tariff" which has 200 minutes + 50 SMS.

If I have this phone for 12 months and remember to send back my claims on time +and+ use less than 200 minutes / 50 texts each month:

1. will there be any other fees to pay (assuming I stay clear of high toll numbers etc)
2. will I have to return the phone at the end of the 12 months?

Sorry if these are silly questions. I'm just wary and feel I must have missed something in the small print as for a casual user these seem too good to be true.

Thanks!

Ben.

The answer to both questions is 'no'. As you say, stay within your monthly allowance and ensure you meet the cashback Ts and Cs and it will be free for the year. You'll be in profit if you sell the handset at the end of the 12 months!

e2save are pretty good but I do not recommend dealing with coolnewmobile. There’s plenty of threads on this board if you want to read why.

thanks for the clarification. that's as I expected but it's always best to check with someone who has experience of a deal!

yes, I have read some of the reviews of coolnewmobile and I will steer clear of them. I just used them as an example because they had 12 months cashback on a 12 month contract for a v3.

I've yet to see any trusted provider offering 12 months cashback on a 12 month contract for a v3. e2save has 12 months but with off-peak minutes only. I realise I'm asking for a lot (a good phone with lots of free minutes for free :-) ).

If anyone can direct me to a good v3 deal from a good dealer I'd be very happy.

    Thanks,

    Ben.

MobileOutlet also have the OVP o2 200 free - don't know much about them though.

If I were going for a cashback deal, I'd be looking for:

    The Link
    CPW
    e2save
    Mobileshop

I would try most others, but coolnewmobile would be last on my list, after OSPS.
Certain OTT members have caused me to add this disclaimer: all advice given is free of charge & as such should be taken to be IIRC (as I don't spend hours researching all answers  )!

So your requirement is a Motorola RAZR V3, 12 months free line rental, an allowance of any time, any network minutes, and a reputable dealer.

It's unlikely you'll find a deal that matches all those requirements so you may have to make a compromise. I definitely wouldn't compromise on the dealer you choose though. Of all the online only retailers, I would stick with mobileshop and e2save. If you must have a V3 with an allowance of any time minutes then the only thing left to compromise on is the 12 months free line rental. So you may have to end up paying a small monthly amount to meet your other requirements.

Here's a selection from e2save and mobileshop. Note that one of the deals is with a clearance (ie reconditioned) handset.

    Mobileshop
    Motorola V3 Pink
    O2 200 (200 mins and 100 SMS)
    9 months free line rental
    Cost per month: £30
Cost per month after cashback: £7.50

    e2save
    Motorola V3 (Clearance)
    O2 200 (200 mins and 100 SMS)
    9 months £1.99 line rental
    Cost per month: £30
Cost per month after cashback: £8.99

    e2save
    Motorola V3
    O2 200 (200 mins and 100 SMS)
    8 months free line rental
    Cost per month: £30
Cost per month after cashback: £10

Hope that is of some use. If you find a deal that better matches all your requirements please let me know.

    Cheers

Hi Op, I'm looking at the same deal you are!

The only thing I'm not too sure on is whether the inclusive mins include calls to landlines? Anyone know the answer? The tariff is with orange on OVP 200 (apparently matching O2 tariff)

Also, 4 months ago, I got Pink V3 through Onestop, Orange network £20 p.m. BUT you can claim £180 cashback, very pleased that my 1st claim was honoured, cq received Sat after waiting 2 weeks, no hassle. Wish I could get the same deal for my husband, but all the good clearance deals/free monthly tariffs appear to be for the Pink Razr, & they just won't agree to using it in public!

A proper 1/2price deal, with someone that ought to still be in business, come claim time!!

The OVP O2 200 includes 200 minutes which can be used for any UK mobile network and any 01 or 02 landline number. Also, as it's matching O2, it means 0800 / 0845 / 0870 numbers are also included (something Orange would never do!)

    I can understand that!

Not quite as competitive as e2save or mobileshop but agree with you that some people are just more comfortable doing business with a household name.
