Assuming it's running Windows, take a look in Device Manager, and see if the CD device is shown, and if so, if it is giving an error code.

Try a hard shutdown, by that I mean turn off the power at the mains plug and reboot. This has happened to me a number of times and turning off the power has resolved it.

if you are not careful, that can do more damage than good to internal components of the PC.

you also run the risk of corrupting data as well.

I have had my Medion computer for 5 years and it has all of it's original components despite me turning it off at the mains and all of the normal power outage's.

Switching off a PC at the wall socket leaves the primary storage device in an inconsistent state. Usually the operating system will recover from being mistreated in such a fashion with a simple data integrity check, but on occasion it can result in a non-booting system.

If you restore to before problem arose, this can sometimes help.

Go to Start, Programmes, Accessories, Accessorise, System Tools, Restore is near the bottom of list.

You can choose a date to restore to.

Not sure whether this would help the problem but it won't hurt.

    Good luck
