Car Hire with points on license?

Well got some points recently
3 for speeding in a 30 zone (SP01).
Has anyone experience with renting a car with a few points on the licence. I don't think it'll matter but haven't contacted the car hire companies yet and it'll take them a few days to get back to me.

my recollection is most just want you to have a valid license, and they are not interested in any points, long as its less than 12

keep in mind if you have a two part license they may want to see the paper part to do the hire anyway.0 -
Might depend where you are hiring the car.
Never ever checked my points and been hiring cars in Spain for years.0 -
I have been renting cars for years and have rarely had a clean licence. Once upon a time it may have mattered if you didn't disclose the points, but as far as I know I have never in the last 20 years been asked to sign anything at a European car hire desk which requests me to point out my unspent convictions.
I always take the paper section of the licence with me and I consider it is up to the car hire firm to query what it says on it. They are acting as agent of the insurer and if they are not interested at the point of sale with the information sitting under their nose then I would say it doesn't seem to matter much.
What do others think?0 -
the only place I've ever been asked for the paper counterpart of my photocard licence was in Cornwall.

Never in the US or Australia at least. In the US I'd be surprised if most of those working the counter even know there's a paper counterpart - no such thing in any state I know of. I know that you are supposed to have it to provide to them and I always do - but have never been asked.
I've never read the terms and conditions of a rental contract closely enough to see if it says you should be disclosing anything of this nature, but only when renting within the UK has it ever been requested that I produce the document that would disclose any points on my licence.Does remembering a time that a certain degree of personal responsibility was more or less standard means that I am officially old?0 -
Many EU countries don't have a paper counterpart anyway - I don't have one for a Polish licence for example. From Poland...with love.

I booked a car with Avis over the phone yesterday for Orlando, I have 3 points on my licence that have expired. Mentioned this and the girl told me that even if they were current it would have been fine as it's only 6 points or more that is a problem.:j Debt free since 31/01/08:j

I wonder...do they actually have lists of each country and how much points is acceptable for each country?
For instance, we don't have any formal system of recording points - you need to go to the police station and ask if you're uncertain, but you won't get any sort of document. And we get 24 points a year to spend as we wish - with even hideous speeding offences only being punishable by 5 points taken away...From Poland...with love.
