Digital Satellite Warranty Cover Ltd

Options
Hi all,

Just received a letter from the above informing me that my sky warranty is about to expire and wanting me to sign up to their same day service for £6.49 per month....

I thought this rather odd, as I don't / never had a sky installation!

Just wondering how they got my details.. I'm signed up for the mail / phone preference systems / tick the box on the council tax form...

Any one had a similar experience / shed some light on this?

I note googling these people gives people disgruntled re the sales side but not the actual work.

Digital Satellite are not in anyway whatsoever associated with Sky. I've had their letters and just received (yet another) of their calls about a warranty for a box...thing is, they just ring up any old Sky customers and try to flog you a warranty.

Sky don't give out customers details (why would they want you to go elsewhere???) so you have a right to ask Digital Satellite where they DID get your details from.

Sky are hopping mad with DS and are preparing to take them to Court over this: in my tel conversation, I confronted them about passing themselves off as Sky and about the warranty and was told that Sky 'don't do warranties' - Sorry, but Sky DO cover equipment with their products for less than these scammer want.

    From Sky.com -
"I've been approached by a company selling me insurance for my Sky products.
We are aware of other companies offering extended warranties on Sky equipment. Some of these companies actively misled customers by passing off their warranty products as being provided or approved by Sky. "

    Be warned!

What can you do if your silly other half has taken warranty out with them without checking them out first? I've cancelled his direct debit and thankfully they only took 10.99 out. Wondering if he can make a complaint about them and request the 10.99 back?

If your OH has agreed a minimum term contract with them, it's more likely that they'll make a complaint as you will then be in breach of contract.

  • My poor Mum has been well and truely scammed! When visiting her last week she had a letter from a company called Local Digital Support LTD, based in Havant. The letter adivsed that following the information she had provided they are now covering her Sky box etc and would take a payment of £65 for the year. When I checked her statement I found they had taken the said amount, however to my amazement on the same day a further £120 had been taken from other digital service companies, Digital Repair Services in Brighton and Nationwide Satallite Services in Bournmouth. On further investigation it appears that over the past 6 months these companies have taken over £400. These people have just phoned her up and got her to take out cover when not required. i have called them all today and asked about cancelling and they have advised that all I need to do is send them a letter and they will look into it. What are the chances of ever getting the money back. Why do these people target the vunerable? The annoying thing is she is already registered with the TPS so shouldn't get this kind of call.

Heres hoping that she will get her money back. In the meantime we have cancelled her card and cancelled the direct debit on the account.

I think the greater problem is in stopping her agreeing to keep taking on useless warranties. Selling by phone is not illegal, and if dialling numbers randomly the chances of your getting a potential satellite user is pretty high. If they agree and voluntarily provide their card/bank details, that's the decision of the consumer, even though it's not advised. You might need to be be firmer with explaining you'd like to 'vet' any additional expenditure to prevent this happening again.
