What to do with random tins of food?

DSD has been left with quite alot of abandoned tins of food, ( in date, foods none of us eat).
Wondering if anyone can suggests somewhere to donate them to that wont be too much hassle (York area ideally). I know some supermarkets collect pet food, but what to do with unwanted people food...
any suggestions would be welcome

A church would be my first thought? Don't they collect for harvest etc? If not you could maybe try a soup kitchen?A little nonsense now and then is relished by the wisest men

I would have said a local church too - mine collects cans etc and distributes them after the Harvest Festival to families and the elderly of the parish.

In my town we have a local food bank which gives regular food parcels to people in need. I don't know if they accept donations from the public or whether it's just supermarkets, but if you've anything like that locally it's worth getting in touch as I know ours is struggling with the demand just lately.0

Yes, I would get in touch with your local church. Or if you have any sort of shelter for the homeless or woman's refuge they might be able to use them. Or just ask any visitors to help themselves to anything they fancy!Val.0

Women's refuge?
Do you have any elderly neighbours that may accept them?
Keep them til school harvest time if you have kids/know kids who will take them?

Salvation Army they do such a lot for people in this country who are in need.
Or give it to a local lower school because it will soon be harvest festival and they collect for low income families and pensioners in the local area.Blessed are the cracked for they are the ones that let in the light

When my mother in law passed away, we inherited her house and everything in it, including her larder cupboard jammed full of tins of all sorts... that was 2 years ago... I don't use tinned anything to cook with (or eat anything out of a tin!) and have just kept them incase they were needed. However, they haven't been needed and I discovered that they are now all way out of date (like an entire year!).
What can I do with them? There are about 60 tins of every concievable tinned food you can think of lurking in that larder and I really don't want to just chuck them out!0 -
What are they tins of? Some will be okay, but acidic things like tinned toms or dented/rusty tins won't be safe.
If you could work out which tins are safe you could take them to a winter fete or food drive. My mum's church sell tins/jars(mostly in date things people have but just won't use) at the winter fete for like 10p etc but it really depends what's in them.Living cheap in central London :rotfl:0 -
Have you got a dog?
Anything past it's best in our house gets sniffed and if it's not too bad it's fed to the dogsSome days you're the dog..... most days you're the tree!0
