I quite like Far Away from Avon which has sandalwood in it. The link below has all the perfumes Avon does and if you click on each perfume it says what each one is like. Avon also have a money back guarantee in that if you don't like it you can send it back. They also have an offer on at the moment where on some of their fragrances you can buy one and get another for £1.00.

Just thought you might like a cheaper alternative to some of the bigger named brands. I find that with the Far Away I can still smell it on me at the end of the day.

Anything bought outside the EU and costing more than £18 is subject to customs.

Its very hard to get samples, either the companies are not producing them or the sa is withholding.

Go give Prada a sniff or the new Prada Ambre. Do not be afraid to try perfumes aimed at men either. The type you are looking for is orientals.

Habanita is fabulous especially the parfum.

Oooh I had added Prada to my shortlist after looking at some of the suggested sites, will definitely have to give it a try.

I just bought Lush's Karma and I really like it, it's sort of patchouli with a hint of citrus (I'm not very good at describing perfumes sorry!) I don't like really sweet, girly scents either. On the MSE front, it costs about £21, and they had a special offer on in the shop so if you spent £20 or over you got to choose a free product. So I got some shaving cream for OH that would have cost over £10 had I paid for it! (I rarely buy anything from Lush, find them soo pricey!! Except for the perfume that is. ;))
    .

That sounds really good thanks, I like citrus type scents too, so it could be just the thing!

I understand your worries about paying custom duties. I have purchased lots of perfumes from fragrancex and haven't been caught out ...yet. They don't send the perfumes with a tracking number. Sometimes they have come from Holland and even England. Don't ask me how.

If you do get caught out, just refuse the item.

Thought I would recommend Bal a Versailles to you.

The EDC and EDT do smell slightly different, but it is wonderful stuff.

Fragrancex are highly competitive in price. As the EDC is only a fiver, it might prove a good starting point to try out the site. Don't forget to put FREE in the coupon box.

Just found this on the HMRC website, not sure if the 50g includes the weight of the bottle, but sounds reassuring:

    Perfume and toilet water

If you order or send purchased goods of perfume or toilet water from a country outside the EU then you:
    • don’t have to pay Excise Duty
    • don’t have to pay Customs Duty
    • only pay Import VAT if you’re ordering or sending more than 50g of perfume or 0.25l of toilet water

Just want to say a massive thanks to everyone who has made suggestions, especially Gingernutmeg and Sensemaya - the websites you mentioned have opened up a whole new world of perfumes to me which I never even knew existed! I am definitely going to try Habanita and Bal a Versailles, neither of which I had ever heard of before.

    Thankyou :T

    Can I hijack the thread (sorry snuggles:A) and ask for suggestions from people;

I dont like heavy, musk or sandalwood fragrances, neither do I like vanilla, or sickly sweet florals. I like oceanic smells and fresh/fern types, but something that lasts, any recommendations?

    Glad to have helped.

Have you tried men's cologne? I like Guerlain 'Heritage' and 'Lagerfeld'. Lagerfeld is worth checking out on Fragrancex, but makes like Guerlain, Estee Lauder, Chanel and so forth are not worth buying because they can work out more expensive than in the UK.

    Have fun browsing the website.:p

Alias123 - I can't help you with those kind of perfumes. But it might be worth checking Chanel ' Cristalle'.

Have a look at Perfume Parlour, which is incredibly cheap for smell-a-likes and purer oils. Their vanilla is lovely and very long lasting £1.85 with free postage for the small size.

Thought this may come in useful.

Pandora - Yes, those oils are great.
