Complaint against Carpetright plc

Can anyone help me regarding a complaint against Carpetright plc. Apologies in advance for the length of this posting, but there is quite a bit of background info - hopefully the following chain of events should summarise.
Carpet and fitting purchased in store - fitting arranged with Carpetright for Sat 9 May. Payment made in full.
Fri 8 May/Sat 9 May - rooms prepared ready for fitting with two main living rooms emptied with all furniture put in garden and various locations around house and old carpet taken up and new underlay put down (by me).
Sat 9 May - No sign of carpet fitter by early pm so rang store. Rang store again when received no phone call back as promised and was told that fitting had been arranged for the wrong date - store admitted that fault was entirely all theirs. Expressed my displeasure and was told that there was nothing that they could do and they subsequently arranged for carpet to be fitted the following day. Told them that this was
completely unsatisfactory and whilst it was by no means convenient or satisfactory it would have to do.
Sun 10 May - carpet fitted and carpet fitter paid.
Following a number of letters of complaint to the company it is clear that I am getting nowhere. I find it amazing that the company obviously consider that their mistakes (and the considerable inconvenience that it caused to my family and I) are acceptable. I am also amazed that the refund of the delivery charge is considered to be a gesture of goodwill - surely this is an entitlement as the carpet was not actually delivered (the fitter collected it from the central warehouse himself).
I feel very strongly about this and would welcome any advice that anyone may be able to give on where I can take this further.

What are you wanting out of this?
An error was made, which they admitted to but errors happen and yes they are annoying but they are not the end of the world.0 -

What do you actually want? You are not going to get very much except sympathy if you only say how upset you are but don't make it clear what you want.Hi, we’ve had to remove your signature. Sometimes people make mistakes - I remember when people just to accept that rather than demanding compensation for everything.
What happened was inconvenient, but these things happen!0 -
nobody died mate and you got your carpet fitted so they did fullfill their contract with you. why are people so unreasonable these days and chasing compensation all the time0

The above is a link from another thread for someone else having problems with carpetright.
As already mentioned - you need to know what recompense you expect as fair for the inconvenience and cost involved.
If you take it as far as court action, you will have to explain why having your carpet fitted the day after it was due is worth what you are suing for.
The court may also consider the reasonableness of Carpet Right - you brought a mistake to their attention and they fixed it the next day - you will have to show how this was not reasonable enough.

They made a mistake, and rectified it within 24 hours.
Are you not causing yourself even more grief and inconvenience by continuing to pursue this?
Let's hope nothing serious happens to you - how would you cope?0 -
The carpet fitting is contracted out if you read on the back of the receipt you are paying the fitter not carpetright , not sure if it makes it more complicated or not.0

I have to echo most people's posts here. The store made a mistake by not booking the fitting on the right day. You phoned, they apologised and did it next day. If they refunded the delivery charge (I can't quite work it out from your post), that's a bonus - remember, they did deliver and fit the carpet.
I seriously cannot believe the cheek of some people.Squirrel! If I tell you who I work for, I'm not allowed to help you. If I don't say, then I can help you with questions and fixing products. Regardless, there's still no secret EU law.
Now 20% cooler0 -
Whilst I would be annoyed if this happened to me I hardly think you have any chance of much more than an apology. As someone else has said mistakes do happen. When I got my carpet fitted by a local company I had to change days for it to be done as the fitter had a bereavement and the other fitters were busy, I only had to wait a day til they arranged someone else to fit the carpet. If you had to take an extra day off work then I'd be very annoyed but really its one day later, not a week or a month.
Is the carpet fitted to your standards, etc, its not falling to bits and fraying at the edges? I think one day late is fine, had it been a week or two then I'd be complaining.
Calm down, your carpet is fitted and as long as it is ok then I'd leave it at that.0
