Help please. Seller backing out of transaction

Just bought something on ebay yesterday and paid for it. Seller has just mailed me saying, sorry but I cannot sell to you for this price as I will lose money. Thanks anyway. Ive already paid for it and they havent refunded. I didnt think someone could just pull out because they didnt get as much as they wanted for it. It was a new seller with no feedback unfortunately. Any ideas?

  • It's against Ebay rules but there's really not much you can do to force them to sell to you. You can, however, make a NPS claim and they'll get a strike, I believe.

I think you can still leave them negative feedback, too.

Yes, await a reply. Its more the principal rather than them money (was only a few quid) I just dont see the point in putting something on to avoid listing fees then retracting if you dont get what you wanted. Find it very frustrating and a complete waste of my time! :)

Contact the seller again and politely explain that you are disappointed that they feel unable to comply with ebay regulations, mention also that if they were refusing to sell you would have expected an immediate refund as well. Wait to see what they do.

If you don't get a refund in 36 hours email again, more strongly this time and say that as they have kept your money you assume they are now going to honour the sale and you will therefore expect your item in a day or so.

If after 7 days they haven't refunded open a full paypal chargeback for item not received, leave it open until they refund in full.

Then report them as a non performing seller and leave appropriate feedback. They can only leave you a positive and if they do that but leave a non positive remark you can get that struck out as well and they get yet another warning on their seller dashboard.

EDIT: if they ask you to do a mutual cancellation refuse and choose the option 'I want to purchase this item' or whatever, as they get to pay their fees then as well.

If its a new seller they may not beaware of how ebay works

Also there is a chance you wont get your money back. If they spent the money you paid them and dont have a card or bank account registered on paypal, then paypal cant recover the funds and DONT put themselves out of pocket. Had this happen to me a few times before xmas

Not true, you are mixing up ebay and non ebay purchases.

Fir purchases on ebay fulfilled via paypal the buyer is guaranteed their money back regardless of whether the seller elaves funds in their account or not. Off ebay it is different.

Personally I would wait 7 days, then open up an "item not received" dispute.

Paypal will then request a tracking number from the seller, who obviously can't provide one, which means you'll then get your money refunded, and are free to leave negative feedback to warn other buyers that this seller is clueless and hasn't read the ebay selling rules.

No, I am not perfect, but yes I do judge people on their use of basic English language. If you didn't know the above, then learn it! (If English is your second language, then you are forgiven!)
