Our 2 year old tipped a cup of tea into the keyboard of a laptop. Now it's not working properly. What can be done if anything to fix this.
Thank you.
Thank you.

House Insurance, Unless you are capapble of taking it apart and cleaning it properly using the correct cleaning fluids and the correct tools.0

remove power, battery, keyboard (usually screwed in from bottom), hard disk, ram (be careful as it can be damaged with static). Mop up any excess liquid, clean with a very slightly damp cloth (or isopropyl alcohol if you have it), dry in airing cupboard for a few hours. Put everything back and switch on. Best done as soon as you can, before the tea dries.Ever get the feeling you are wasting your time? :rolleyes:0

And wait for some sparks, either form the other half or the laptop, I wouldnt try it yourself as its just not worth it unless you are confident in what you are doing, what I mean is Albertross gave out advice that could be used on certain models of laptops but not all as my keyboard is clipped in from the sides.0

hence the word usually..
The op has already switched it on, cleaning it is unlikely to make the problem worse.Ever get the feeling you are wasting your time? :rolleyes:0 -
If you find out what model laptop it is, its easy enough to find out how the keyboard comes out, but i wouldn't claim on insurance for the sake of a keyboard..
As albertross said, it may just need cleaned.. and hopefully nothing else has been damaged. If you think nobody cares about you, try missing a couple of payments.0 -
The laptop is a packard bell easynote E6 100. Is the keyboard likely to dry out on its own. I do not know a lot about computers.
Thank you.0 -
It will dry out, but it's not a good idea to let it dry with tea on it (especially with sugar).
When you switched it on, what happened?Ever get the feeling you are wasting your time? :rolleyes:0 -
if you had sugar in the tea then it could well be time for a new laptop.0

Does the laptop work at all, or is just the keyboard broken? You may be able to get away with replacing the keyboard, unless tea has worked its way deeper into your laptop.0
