Why don't BSM cars have L-plates?

Recently I've noticed that every BSM learner driver car I've seen has not got L-plates, yet I thought this was a legal requirement?

Why does a big company like BSM think that they can get away with disregarding the rules?
It's not as if they are particularly distinctive on the roads, yes they are orange, but so are RAC cars.

Don't they have an L plate on the pyramid thing on the roof?
I would say that's more visible than a wee plate down by the exhaust pipe somewhere. At least you can see it over the roofs of other cars.

    It's only a game

they're often taken off to make the cars more fuel efficient. I know my driving school stopped using them (but their cars are clearly marked with L plates, the roof boxes were predominantly for advertising)

Could it be that they weren't giving a lesson at the time, or that the driver had actually passed and were doing something like passplus?
  • no l plate required for pass plus, and maybe the driving instructor was nipping to the shops?

No there was a learner in the car all times I saw it, and none of them seemed particularly confident drivers, ie I wouldn't have thought that they had passed.

Erm how do you know it was a learner?

All driving schools must display L plates of some kind, BSM use pyramids, if someone is doing a Pass Plus course no plates are needed as they have passed their test.

If the instructor or his family are using the car for their own use, apart from when they are driving between lessons, they must remove the L plates from the vehicle.
  • just saw one drive by with the triangle on top

All the ones round here have the triangles.

When I learnt with BSM they removed the triangle when I did my passplus as I was no longer a learner :)
