** Woo Hoo its Friday 28th August**

Morning all,

Thank goodness its Friday! Woke up at 5am this morning not sure why but couldn't get back to sleep and then DD came in at 6am so decided to get up. Day off for me today and my mum is coming over today which is great as I havent seen her for 3 weeks as she has been on holiday.
Not much else planned for today, need to pick some bits from the allotment and make some chutney with the stuff I can't use. Might also go and pick some blackberries to put in the freezer for crumbles/pies over winter :)

Right going to jump in the shower and have a productive day.

Morning Sally and all who follow...

How's the allotment clearing going Sally? My runner beans are coming to an end now but the courgettes have gone mental and I've got about 12 ickle ones...peppers have just started to flower too - think I might need to bring them indoors now it's getting chilly.

My Niece called last night, she passed her GCSE science paper with a B, so pleased for her - she's been fast tracked for it, she's only just turned 14 in the last 2 weeks. I shall send her a card and a little pressie.

DD1 had orthadontist today for her impressions to be done for her brace - that'll be fun.

Builders are coming to replace my utility room floor next week so need to finish emptying it over the weekend...joy!

Pooky I had been doing ok but haven't been down for about a week so feel I might be back to square one again *sigh*
Runner beans are still going strong and courgettes are too going mad, already had about 10 off and made 4 batches of ratatouille for the freezer. Wonder what else I can make with them!

I love courgettes fried in butter, yums. Grate them up and pop them in a salad, especially nice with peppers and chilli and a good squeeze of lime. I've blanched a load for the freezer too but I'm sure you can chutney them.... yes you can....look here

Sally - you mentioned before that your allotment gets inspected, I didn't realise that happened, I presumed that you paid your rent and then it was up to you what happened to it after that!

What are they looking for - just ensuring that it is being used?

They inspect once a year to make sure that its well kept and being used yes. For example I have cleared and been using about half of one end, the other end just had the shed and a lot of weeds (I had cleared the weeds once but of course with warm weather and rain its like a jungle). When they inspected they wrote and said that basically great I had used one end but the other end wasn't acceptable . I was a bit annoyed as Ive only had it since Feb and TBH have spent at least 5-10 hours a week down there!

    Morning all.

Ooh, I've missed so much in the past few weeks/months obviously (Grow It Yourself-ers). My back garden is massive so we have a decent sized vegetable garden but in nine years of living here we've only used about half the vegetable patch. This year I paid the MIL's partner to come in and dig the whole lot over for me (I was 8 months pregnant at the time), then my dad came and planted loads of veggies for me. The caterpillers and slugs decimated the cabbages and cauliflowers and the onions didn't do too well but we've lots of potatoes, courgettes and other squashes and a glut of tomatoes. The recent rains have helped the sweetcorn and celeriac come along nicely! The only downside was because I didn't have a clue when things had been planted I didn't have a clue when I should be harvesting my crops:o

Now I need to find a local supplier of manure / organic fertilliser because I need to replace the nutrients I've taken out of the soil!

Today looks to be another busy day... we're going to story time at Halton library, then to the breastfeeding clinic before I head to the other side of Leeds to have lunch with a friend, then home and helping to clean out the sun-room! Wayne had to rescue a frog  from there yesterday and we've realised that the tumble drier hose has become disconnected which isn't helping with the damp problem in there (seriously not helped by oafish git from next door who flicked his tab-ends onto the plastic corrugated roof and has melted four small holes in it - which leak when it rains). Spent £30 in B&Q yesterday on a new tumble drier hose, some silicone sealant and a sealant gun!
