London-cheap as chips

Hi all,
Want to book a hotel/budget type place in London for weekend of 19-21 May, preferably somewhere central and nice. It has to be cheap. So far, the cheapest I've found is on hotels.com for Regent Place Hotel (total £80-odd) but the reviews on it are less than impressive. Looking for recommendations and advice.

Will be doing some sightseeing (taking friend around who's visiting from the States) but I loathe paying full price for things since I've already been to them (a few times for most places!) and want to know the best deals for tourist things, eg Tower of London, London Eye. We'll probably go to museums (thank goodness they're free!!) but it'd be nice to enjoy some tourist type things..

And cheap eats out as well, please!

Sorry for the long essay and thanks in advance for all the lovely knowledge that exists on MSE.

I'd recommend doing a search on https://www.venere.com - really good website with helpful maps and reviews etc. And for 4% off, use the code: BK5HX8W

    Hope that helps

If you'd booked far enough in advance you might have got travelodge rooms @ £10/night, there might be some £26 ones still available online but two consecutive nights is pushing it. They're not that bad either.

I agree that the Regent Palace Hotel looks pretty bad from the reviews. You can't beat the location but it seems like that's all it has going for it.

I live in London so don't know much about hotels but I do tend to see that the best prices people get for hotels are from bidding on Priceline (are you familiar with this?)

To help cut costs for your sightseeing, there are good 2 for 1 deals available on the following website which are valid until the end of May:

    Enjoy London!

type 'hostels London' into google search. Plenty of them have private rooms for 2 or more which work out much cheaper than hotel rooms. I stayed in one in Earls Court which was absolutely fine. In fact at £25.00 for a single it was actually much nicer than the cheapest hotel room I found previously which was £55.00!

There are rooms available at Travelodge London City Airport and also Docklands at the £26 rate per night for the two nights you have stated. Doubt you will beat that, although not centre of London (but still accessible).

I've stayed in the Regent Palace Hotel several times and it's really lovely and also very central. If your planning to spend most of your time out does it really matter what the room is like?

Also if you book it direct with them you will be able to get a room for around £40 (single). You need to phone the booking line and when it asks you to press an option don't press anything, just keep holding until you speak to a person. When you press one of the options you will be put through to a booking agency who will whack a hefty fee on top for the privaledge of you using them to book it. If you stay on hold you will get through to the hotel reception who will charge you the going rate without the booking fee. This booking fee is added on on the website prices too.

Other than that I recently stayed at a B&B called 'Michaels Guest House' which was in Kentish Town. I cant find a webpage for it but it was £35 for a doubel room B&B. It wasnt the cleanest of places and there was no TV but I didnt need all that. I was planning to be out most of the time and only needed somewhere to crash.

I would suggest looking at https://www.tripadvisor.com for hotels.. It has lots and lots of reviews, customer photos etc etc.
