Sim-only deal vs New contract
Hello there,
I just had a quick question that I couldn't find answered on the site or in the forum.
I was initially thinking of getting a sim-only deal with O2 - £15 a month, 300 mins, 300 texts. This about matches my usage. I like sim-only because I like my current phone.
But then I looked on the one-compare website and I saw I can get 500 minutes and 375 texts for £2.92 a month (once the cashback has been acquired). This seems almost too good to be true - I just find it really hard to see how the company can offer a contract for such a little amount: are there any drawbacks that i'm just not paying? Or am I just too cynical an individual!?
I am a student and will be on a seriously tight budget this coming academic year, so I am trying to find the best deal for me.
p.s. I want to keep my old phone; it is unlocked, so could I just get the deal from onecompare and put the sim in my old phone?
Sorry if this post annoys anyone - I find the mobile phone market bewildering and just needed to bounce my idea off some other people before I take the plunge.
Thanks,
John

MobileJunke has a good piece on cashback for dummies and he may be able to advise on this particular company/site.
One golden rule to remember is that cashbacks are only cheaper if you actually get the casback and that requires diligence from you, close scrutiny of the t&c, keeping copies of everything (see cashback for dummies), and the mindset to sue if all fails and, above all, honesty and continued trading from the dealer.0 -

Thanks for your help. I should add that the website i am looking at is buymobilephones.net. I am pretty diligent with these things so I think I may give it a go.0 -

Sorry to keep posting. Do you mean mobilejunkies.net? In which case where is the info about cashback? I've had a good google but can't find what you are talking about... could you possibly post a link?0 -
