depends how many photos you have but i find imgburn to be the fastest and easiest program for most general burning tasks

as for your speed, if you download ccleaner, run its cleaner and regestry cleaner, it should help things along, also go to its tool tab and then click on start up

here you will see a list of things that start up along with windows, turn anything you know you dont need on startup off, if your not sure, leave it or post a screen shot or something of whats there and we can tell you what to turn off.

    as for the net

consider using safari 4, chrome 3 or chrome 4

the 3 fastest browsers on the net

chrome 4 being my favourite and the fastest (42x faster than IE in some tests)
    Back by no demand whatsoever.

Also what are your computers Hardware specs, memory and CPU type and speed?

In the Which Computer solutions, Advertised on TV there is instructions on How to defrag your boot sector, my father did it and his computer now boots faster.

Other reasons might be you need to upgrade, I have noticed for many years that Windows updates slowly make a computer slower and slower. a clean install then update leaves you with a similarly slow machine

As for your Pics question what Hudsonj said depends how many you have?

Download MALWAREBYTES (Make sure you click 'DOWNLOAD LATEST VERSION')
    http://www.filehippo.com/download_malwarebytes_anti_malware/
    UPDATE and FULL SCAN
Post the log here AFTER youve deleted everything it finds

    reboot

Download HIJACK THIS (Make sure you click 'DOWNLOAD LATEST VERSION')
    http://www.filehippo.com/download_hijackthis/
Click DO A SCAN AND SAVE A LOGFILE (Takes seconds) then post the log so we can see whats running
(do NOT do anything else with Hijack but scan and post the FULL log)

one other thing to do is go into avast and turn off the memory test on startup (right-click on avast icon, program settings and it's the first option on the Common tab that'll be open). makes a big difference to boot times :)

What browser and firewall do you use as i cant see a mention of it in the post, if not running firefox then id suggest download and install the latest version and get the no script add on as well as the adblock add on. It could be slow as there might be some programs that are due to start on start up, to find out if there are any then left start >> All programs >> hover over start up and if theres any that start then they will be listed, do you keep avast up to date and regulary scan

I have also found that a dying hard disk slows things down because after a few hard errors, the OS will switch talking to the disk in DMA mode and continue using PIO mode (which is v slow). AND IT DOESN'T SWITCH BACK
