broadband suggestions

Hi,

I know people are asking for suggestions all the time and I've been trawling through the forum looking at the responses. My situation is a bit tricky. I already have a BT broadband account at home, using a wifi router, and that all works fine. However, my dad is ill and I'm likely to be staying with him a lot over the next few months (and I don't know how many that will be, but at least the next couple I would guess). I'm able to work at home (wherever home may be that day!), and need a decent internet connection to be able to access my office files. I've been using dial-up but it's just so slow, puts the 'phone out of action and therefore makes me v. conscious of time.

Anyone got any ideas for the best deal including set-up? Dad has BT line rental. I obviously only want a month-by-month deal as I don't know how long this situation will last. I do have an old BT voyager modem, but I don't know if that would be any good. I would rather be wifi, but need to balance that with cost.

I'd really appreciate any help with this as I'm quite stressed-out and this is one aspect of trying to make life easier.

Have a look here at Newnet. Good reliable connection with a one month contract. Dependant on your useage depends on cost. The price for each product is fixed regardless of your connection speed. EG I have a good 8mb connection with a 25gb download limit, £2 for each additional gig, for £18 per month.

I have monthly broadband with Virgin. It cost £17.99 per month for 2MB and has a 6GB download limit. I got a free moden and free activation. Everything I needed was sent quickly with full instructions what to do to get connected.

I cancelled mine about 4 months ago when I moved and did not have to pay a cancellation fee. I connected it back up again shortly afterwards though.

I have had no problems so far and have been using Virgin about 12 months and moved 3 times. Hope this helps.

Just noticed if you sign up to Virgin BB with an egg card you will get £50 cash back. Could pay for a wireless router? :j
