Is this more stable now to download? I hid it in microsoft update before as I had read there were problems with it but now its appeared as ready for download again. Is it worth downloading now or should I still stick with explorer 7?
Thanx

Thankyou, I already use both firefox and explorer for different things so I do still want to keep explorer. I just didnt want to go to 8 yet if there are still problems as I also read of some people having difficulty uninstalling to go back to 7
    Thanx

Mozilla Firefox is always my preference! Always ahead of the game....they had tabbed browsing about 18 months before Microsoft caught on! and its much more secure as sham123 says along with a whole host of customizable tools readily available to be intregated!

The problem is its now gone backward as its so resource hungry and slower than both safari and Opera. I'd go for one of those if you want an alternative to IE or stick with IE. IE8 apparently is much more stable though the some people are having problems with it conflicting with software in Vista. It may be worth a try though
  • I use Opera or Firefox for everything except the microsoft updates, and IE7 does that job. So when I was re-offered IE8 this morning I just unticked it and hid it again. Why would I download a browser I don't need, especially when it's the subject of lots of grumbles? Why look for trouble?

To answer your original question, IE8 seems to be stable (it's been on my machine for a few months, and at work machines for at least a month, without any comment by the users) and you will soon be given it as a download even if you have 'hidden' the update!

Since it is more secure than IE7 I would download it. Whether you actually use it, or prefer one of the myriad other browsers suggested by people is, of course, up to you...

I went back to IE7 because i found 8 slowed everything down.

I agree. It's been nothing but a great improvement over 7 for me, and I've not encountered any issues using it for months now..

Extra features aside it's basically just another big security update. Even if you use something else it's probably worth installing anyway, if only for peace of mind.
