Hi Guys.
I am on Sky Connect & supposed to be receiving 6mbps. Getting up to 1mbps after
midnight but during the day its anywhere from 100kbps -400kbps. Upload speed are constantly around 260-360kbps.
After previous advice I have just managed to get this off the router. Any ideas what is
going wrong:
Firmware Version1.9Sky

Sky LLU uses Easynet equipment and network and performs very well.
Sky Connect uses the BT IPstream service and is vastly over contended. The result of that is what you are seeing. If you want better change your ISP but take care who you move to - check one of the specialist ADSL boards (ThinkBroadBand or DSLZone) to see what is flavour of the month. With IPstream flavour of the month is a very appropriate name as good services can go downhill depressingly quickly.
Added to that your 36dB line attenuation should be delivering at least 6 to 7Mbps and isn't. The noise margin is very high at 20dB. Try rebooting the router and recheck the stats.0 -
Your speed is affected by the distance from yourself and your exchange. Visit the BT Website, enter your phone number and get an estimate of what speed you should expect to get.
As the above poster has said, your noise margin is high. There are some very knowledgeable members here from what I've read who will be able to help you more than me.
You may want to try the iPlate (£6) which may boost your speeds - check to see if will fit your phone socket first though using the link on that page. There is also a no spend DIY method too if you do a search.0 -

The trouble is with the BT site is that it only shows what you might get from BT.
It tells me that I might get 6mbs (which I used to). I am now on an LLU ISP which gives me 13mbs - not surprisingly BT don't tell me that this is available from someone else !
Try this - it's unbiased !

The site doesnt work for me.
Also the stats above & download speeds of circa 100kbps were after a reboot of the router. The reboot didnt change anything. Not Again0 -
What is the difference between the speed your computer obtains when connected wirelessly and the speed it obtains when connected directly to the router by an Ethernet lead?
Your posted stats, incidentally, indicate that your modem is synching with your Internet feed at only 3.136 mb/sec - not 6 mb/sec.
Who was it that told you that you are "supposed to be receiving 6 mb/sec" ?
Don't laugh at banana republics. :rotfl:
As a result of how you voted in the last three General Elections,
you'd now be better off living in one.

1) Just done an ethernet test & the result is exactly the same as my last wifi one. 380 down & 350 up
2) BT told me & sky told me.
I think BT are throttling it or some kit is still on the line because I did have vision & that doesnt run on anything as low as I have. Not Again0 -

I've already told you what the problem is and it isn't BT it's the fact that Murdoch won't buy enough centrals (effectively bandwidth) from BTw to support the customer base. There can be a speed restriction imposed by BTw called the IP profile setting which can be set low should your line suffer a low sync but you say you are getting higher speeds after midnight so that will not explain the even lower speeds during the evening. In any event the IP profile setting self corrects in line with your sync rate after a period of 1-5days of stable sync.
I was not expecting the reboot to change the download speed but it should have resulted in a higher sync and lower noise margin which is why I asked you to check the stats. The highest the margin should be on a reboot on a BT IPstream line is 15dB and it will only be that high if there has been insability. Ideally it should be 6dB after a reboot.
Reboot the router and post up the stats right after it resyncs. Are there any phone extensions (in use or not)0 -
Try this page instead.1984ReturnsForReal wrote: »The site doesnt work for me.0 -

Agreed, something that is often overlooked by many when choosing an ISP.0 -
The best thing to do is check ALL internal wiring.
Is your router connected to the main socket?? If it isnt then try it in it and see if the speeds increase. Better still take of the front plate and plug it directly into the test socket behind.
Try a different filter and remove all other devices (phones, sky box). If you constantly get the same top speed and there is no change in the speed you get then SKY may have trained your line to that speed. You will have to call and get them to up the speed again.0
