I’m trying to make use of the last few dry days as the wind is picking up for washing blankets & bedding to store.

My mum bought me a really soft, thick teddy bear blanket which I live in in winter & I have a stash of candles & tea.

Has anyone ever tried making one of those terracotta plant pot candle room heaters? Do they work?
I've not come across a terracotta room heater before, sounds interesting

I'm in the process of making a granny square blanket for my bed. The reality is it's unlikely to be finished this winter but the act of crochet with the fire on, cup of tea by my side, is enough for me to feel relaxed and happy with my lot.
You could always chrochet while in bed and cover your self with it as you go:)

I've seen the terracotta plant pot heater thing on the Tube of You. I think what puts me off is they use the tea light candles and they tend to make a lot of black smokey marks over a period of time. I would be interested to see if people have noticed a difference from using them though.

I think those of us who have simple pleasures and can enjoy them without spending much money don't know how blessed and fortunate we are. (Actually I think we do, but on a cold wet day with the rain blasting against the windows when we are tucked up cosily indoors, life can still feel very contented.).

  • What could be nicer when it's cold, wet and dull outside than having done the days necessary chores being able to turn on the lamps, light the fire if you have one, put some music on in the background make a lovely hot drink and snuggle under a throw in your favourite comfy chair and read a few chapters of your current book or go through a recipe book and plan a few days worth of meals you've not cooked before, or learn how to do something new with a how to' book from the library, plan changes to make life more the way you want it, day dream about the holiday you've always wanted to take. So many ways of whiling away cold dull days that cost nothing other than a little time and a little imagination.

It is lovely, at the start of winter, but by the time we've had Christmas I am getting a bit fed up of the biting cold and the need for layers of clothes. I think hedgehogs have the right idea, eat loads, get warm and snuggly, go to bed and then wake up thinner. Yep, hibernation seems the way to go for me.:rotfl:
