A banker is someone who lends you an umbrella when the sun is shining, and who asks for it back when it start to rain.

They claim to be in line with the cheapest within 3 miles. My local store doesn't accept this though but I normally just call HQ on 0800 505 555 and they soon sort out the little rebels.0

well they can't have because from my tesco garage in Bicester I can SEE I think it's Esso across the road and the other week they were 96.9 and Esso was 94.9 (or similar amounts, the difference was 2.0 at any rate)... we went across the roadDFW Nerd #025DFW no more! Is ESSO fuel a different blend i.e. better for the car? If not surely you could fill the tank at Tesco, then buy a couple of litres at Esso and get double difference refunded at CS when back at Tesco - that's the price promise.0 -
tesco in Oldham and Rochdale have different prices
Rochdale one is usually 2pence more than Oldham:mad:Honesty is the best policy doesn't matter which web site

Well i tried this last night ... the local asda was 1p cheaper than tesco ... so i went and filled up at tesco ... whilst paying i asked the checkout operator .... 'didnt you used to have a price promise on petrol' .... she replied that she thought there was but no-one had ever asked before ... she then shouted through the manager ... who promptly agreed and showed her how to process the refund ... double the difference
It was onl 74p but it all counts .... i didnt even need to show them proof that asda was cheaper they just agreedA banker is someone who lends you an umbrella when the sun is shining, and who asks for it back when it start to rain.0 -

They do the "refund" there and then. Luckily the shell station is on the way to tesco so I can check and shout0

Good way to keep on top of the petrol price diffs is a regular email bulletin from petrolprices.com.
I found that Tesco are 2p more than another supplier nearby.
The only thing that bothers me is that I would just be better off not buying at Tesco.
I bought £30 worth of diesel today, if I went back to Tesco on their price promise, I can ask for £1.20!
No wonder they don't ask for proof. It's not worth the bother surely.
Don't want to offend anyone, just don't have the time to do this every week!!!!!0 -

I hate to be the bearer of bad news but it looks as though this policy may have changed. The following link is Google's cached webpage about the petrol price promise:
http://66.249.93.104/search?q=cache:CsP454PhEr4J:www.tesco.com/customerservices/custServOutsideTheStore.htm+tesco+petrol+price+promise&hl=en&gl=uk&ct=clnk&cd=8
While this is the current live version with no mention of the price promise:
http://www.tesco.com/customerservices/custServOutsideTheStore.htm
However, this page on the Tesco site in the "Did you Know?" box states "We monitor petrol prices up to a 3 mile radius to ensure that you will not buy petrol cheaper.". (You may have to refresh a few times for the correct Did You Know to cycle through!).
http://www.tesco.com/customerservices/custServNearestStore.htm
So really, it's as clear as mud. I suspect they may be trying to quietly drop the policy as I have had to ask for the manager the last 3 times I have been at Tesco Lincoln to get the refund; the till staff know nothing!
