If the person who sold it to you had owned it from new then they must have changed the mileage. If they weren’t the only owner then proving who changed it and when is going to be the problem.

If it was advertised as only having 66k but actually has 75k then that’s false advertising but whether a private seller is liable for innocent mistakes in adverts I’m not sure.

I’m also not sure about the miles, taking 10k off hardly seems worth the trouble and risk, could it be the 75k at VW was a mistyped 57k? What does the rest of the history say? What about MOTs?

mot this june with mileage from whats on car is correct, but then they only read it from the car so this is not accurate, the 75k service last year was at vw, that could have been alot higher by the time the seller got it as its over a year old so it would have been more than 10k knocked off. last owner before was hsbc vehicle finance company., looked at last 2 service history stamps and im thinking there fake as they do not come up on vw system and the postcodes are not recognised
• You can see what history was recorded at MOTs here
http://www.motinfo.gov.uk/

You'll need the reg no, and document reference number from the V5 or MOT test number from the VT20 MOT Test Certificate

Are they saying it's had the 75k service done or was done at 75k, if a car is low on miles the dealer will still stick to the service schedule for example my last service was the 100k service but it has only done 80k

contact the seller and ask how long they have owned the car(say nothing at this time about mileage)if only a short time they may have clocked it,
then say you have checked the history and that it has been clocked and before you go to the police you will give him a chance to give you your money back,
if he says nothing to do with him then you need to find out who the previous owner to him was

knocking 20k of a clock may not sound a lot BUT it does make a difference price wise and for ease of selling

• So what mileage was on the previous MOT's and service history when you inspected them prior to parting with your cash?
