Six flags has some awesome rides X as it was called is incredible and worth the trip just for that ride alone. We went early september a few years ago and the place was dead so we walked on most rides with no queues. Just beleive the signs saying superman is closed if you see them even if you see the ride running, we went to the top of the hill and yes it was closed. The park just doens't seem as good a theme park as other parks available, useing looney tunes characters just to give the kids somthing to look at and buy it was more a collection of rides in a loosely themes area.

Universal, I really enjoyed it in there as well some really good rides but if you have done Florida then there are a few different rides to go on but there are a lot of the same rides. The back lot tour is miles better in Hollywood than Florida, you actually see stuff from films you will have seen like the square from back to the future and we saw wysteria lane from desperate housewives and they were filming on the day we were there.

I'm going back in a week or so and will be hitting universal and possibly Wallyworld just incase you didn't know magic mountain was wallyworld in national lampons vacation. if we have time. Its also a fair bit of a ride north through the LA traffic It took us about an hour to get there.
  • we went to six flags in july last year . it was so hot . there isnt as much shade there as universal . i done one ride that corkscrewed and with all the heat felt as sick as a pig and had to lie down and that was that !!

Have you tried Knotts Berry Farm? They have lots of roller coaster rides there and special offers as well. Im sure they have a website as well

Thanks for the suggestion but will be coming down the coast from Monterey so KBF is the wrong side of LA for us.

We've done Universal and loved it, but the following year decided to try something different, so did Disney's California Adventure - which is not so 'kiddy' as Disneyland. We were 2 adults with 18 and 16 year old girls, and we all had a ball, despite us being wary about the 'disney factor'. Enough rides to go on to cater for all fears!

btw, we checked all places on www.tripadvisor.com and chose not to go to Magic Mountain because of the reviews - I think we got the impression it was just ok, but as we didn;t go, can't really comment.

finally, are you doing any studio tours? We did the Warner Brother 2 hour tour, and had a word in our guide's ear as we'd found on the web that it has the set for Central Perk from Friends. She took us there at the end of the tour, and my daughters were thrilled!

Not doing any studio tours as will be travelling down the coast and not staying in LA, only flying out from LAX.

We had planned to go to Universal when we were in LA last year, but didn't go in the end because we heard that the Back To The Future set (which was the one we really wanted to see) was destroyed in the fire.

We won't be staying in LA, if we go to SFMM it will be by driving inland from Ventura - looks like quite an easy run on the map.

    Have a great trip!

Took my two boys (16 and 11) to MM last month. Found a voucher on the AAA site to get in for $28pp (you need to be in the AA to use it). You'll also finf $20-off vouchers online if you hunt (try the Visit California site)
We chose this park a) because it was a bargain, b) because we've been to US in Orlando several times (and loved it) and c) because it has some truly astounding rides.

We had a fantastic day there. It's a superb theme park - no idea what's behind the bad reviews. We liked everything about it, and the staff were all friendly and helpful. The queue for X2 was horrendous - over an hour - but all the other rides were fine.

There was also an excellent stunt show (skaters, bikers, boarders) which broke up the day really well.

    Great info! Thanks
And thanks for the tips on discount/vouchers (we are AA members!)

No, was simply dated and was replaced with the Simpsons Ride Exeperience, which some deem as the greatest theme park attraction of all time. You should have ruled out Universal for this :-D

Both MM & USH are great. I prefer MM but you have to go to Universal if you only have one day -fun, and a great experience.
