Hi, I've got a pc with no operating system. I initially loaded ubuntu linux which seemed great but I want to go on broadband and it won't work with the talk talk ISP package. Therefore, I want to get windows, but it costs loads to buy, so where can I get ot from?????? I looked at the FAQs but the links didn't seem to work. Grateful for any help.

Also stick with buying XP only, unless you have a really good reason for buying 2000.0

*** Board Guide Note ***
Hi everyone
I've deleted a post on this thread that points to a website I'm sure is not legal - and all posts that quoted/mentioned that site.
If I'm wrong I'm sure the Forum Team will restore them
many thanks0 -
Hi sra, sorry if it is illegal, but it all seems above board to me. What makes you think it's dodgy (apart from the prices)???0

Going back to the original problem. You can use Talk Talk or any other ISP if you connect via Ethernet rather than using their cheap and crappy USB modem.
Simply get yourself a router and you won't need windows!
:doh: Blue text on this forum usually signifies hyperlinks, so click on them!..:wall:0 -

I'll just say -
Adobe Production Studio premium
Amazon price - £1,620.99
That site - £39.95
Hmm :think:0 -
Ok SRA, it was dodgy software. Frankly I'm surprised that they can sell it so openly. I think I'll get it from CCL.
Espresso, thanks for that, how do I go about connecting via ethernet? Is a router just something I can buy and plug in???0 -

HI Doc,
Yes if you use a router you can connect via the ethernet port. If you are happy with the ubuntu linux package -- then there is no need to buy WinXP.
BTW: you could use ubuntu to setup the modem (more difficult)--- you will not need to use the talk talk package
Are you a DOc (I'm too) -- if so give me an email to ak_modi@yahoo.com and will help you with the rest.0 -
Practically any software you want, for just over a quid a time. Where? The software market in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. The place has to be seen to be believed. And yes, keycodes are included.......
Polybear.
p.s. Wouldn't dream of it .....0
