Pipex

hi,

I rang pipex yesterday to cancel and get my MAC code so I could move to tiscali (23.49 -v- 14.99).

They asked why, I said they were too expensive and they dropped me down to their 17.99 plan (2mb speed, no caps and unlike for their new customers, no need to take out the pipex 3000 call plan..i already use call18866)

just fyi!

Yeah, Pipex made me a similar offer when I said I was going to Madasafish. I transfered anyway. So far I'm pleased I did. I'm now on ADSL MAX instead of 2mb, and I'll save about £150 over the next 12 months.

I'd go with them, but they have a 5gb cap...

What happens if I go over my monthly limit?
Additional usage above your free allowance will be charged at just £2 per GB of data (or part thereof). This will then be added to your next monthly invoice.

    I average 10gb/month :-(

Well, it pays to shop around, Pipex were pretty much the most expensive ISP when I left them. They seemed happy to keep their prices up when everyone else was cutting theirs.

Point is though, they did offer to reduce my monthly bill as soon as I asked for a MAC code, so they may do that to keep their other customers who ask too, and since it costs nothing to ask, and the codes expire if not used anyway . . .You could save a few quid just for asking for a MAC code.

This is getting pretty standard these days. O2 did the same thing when I told them I wanted to go to T-Mobile. They suddenly offered me a much better contract, and for less money, and threw in a new phone.

Companies like Pipex would rather you paid them less money than none at all.

I'm paying PIPEX £23.44 for 1mb speed, so I'm interested that I could "drop down" to 2mb for only £17.99. What service were you getting before for your £23.49, and have you signed up to another 12 months' contract as part of this deal?

I was on what they call Pipex Go on their website...

I simply called them on 0845 077 2455 said I wanted to cancel, they asked why, i said because you were too expensive.. he went away to talk and then offered me the 17.99 deal.

But yes, it's another 12month contract.

When I was with them I asked for a Mac and they didn't even bother to ask why or offer any better rate.

Perhaps this was to do with the details they had about you? If you were noted on their system as a heavy user, or someone using Bittorrent or other applications that they've started throttling recently (You can't get more than 20kb/s using Bittorrent on Pipex anymore) then they probably don't value you as a customer and would rather you went elsewhere!
