Ignore all these miseries. The matchday experience at the Aime Giral stadium is one of the best in Rugby league.
I went to see Leeds rhinos play London there last year.
Good hotels- nice feel to the town lots of bakeries and bars - and some nice parks too - good for sunbathing.

We went Liverpool to Barcelona- then train up to Perrignan- cheap if you take the slow option atmospheric and genuinley Catalan

My trip report !We stayed in the centre of Perpignan for 3 nights, overall we had a pleasent time. Its a great central place to get to other resorts, we took a day trip to Collioure's (via train) which had a beautiful port and a nice beach. We didnt get to Canet de Plage (another nice beach nearby).

BMI baby now do direct flights from Manchester. Perpignan airport was a short 5 minute taxi ride.

There are Plenty of shops and nice restaurants (with a catalan influence).
If we did go back however we would choose to stay somewhere else other than the centre of Perpignan (Collioure for example) as Perpigan's major fault is that the streets were a little dirty.

Weather was also great for early May, plenty of sun. Thanks for all your replies !!
  • We have visited the area for family holidays for the last 6 years (Argeles) - as others have mentioned it is a beautiful & historic part of France. Kids love Carcassonne, Toulouse (Space Centre there is excellent), trips into the mountains (the little yellow train is fun!) and the beaches are lovely. There is a great Safari Park up the coast (Sigean), Andorra is only a day trip away, as is Barcelona. Best of all are the local wines - Fitou etc!!!
    Plenty to do I'd say!

Last year we stayed in the camping resort Le Brasillia 4 stars.. it was great. It was only about 10 mins to Perpignan which has lots of nice shops. About 30 mins to airport from city centre.
I agree with "grownup1", Collioure was one of our favourite places very pretty. Lovely restaurants right on the waterfront. We also went to Canet Plage, it was good. 5 mins away in the car, we found a lovely beachside restaurant. It didnt look like one from the outside, as it was a marquee sort of thing. I think because it only works in the summer. But it was lovely inside, had a bar as well as lovely restaurant and comfortable seats with right on the beach with wondeful views. Great food too. I will tell you the name of the restaurant later if I remember it!

Another tip is that you can travel to Spain as Perpignan is so close to the spanish border! We went to Cadaques one day and Roses. We also went to Carcasonne whilst in France, about 2 hrs by car from Perpignan I think. Good castle. cultural site. Overall we had a great time.
