no pulse

I have a main socket with old blue, orange and green wiring coming in. I have wired it to an extension blue/white 2 white/blue 5 orange/white 3 but the extension does not have a phone pulse. My computer is off this extension and I have full broadband and as i have not linked up 4 my broadband is working at a high speed. What is wrong as the extension works for broadband but not for the phone? Any help!

Only the pair between 2 & 5 should be wired:

    Master 2
    Blue/White
    Extension 2
    Master 5
    White/Blue
    Extension 5

If the phone works in the master but not in the extension, it's not wired correctly i.e. bad connection.

Thank you espresso, you are obviously an expert ,perhaps you can tell me why is it that my computer broadband works from the socket but not the telephone, if, as I am sure you are correct, it is a bad connection?
    Many thanks

Broadband works at much higher frequencies and can still work over a high resistance joint (bad connection).

    Hi,

I believe that only one wire need be connected for the B/band to function. Either 2 or 5, not sure if it is critical. For the phone to work you do need both 2 & 5 connected. so, as earlier post, one blue pair connection is probably not punched right down at one end or the other. You do not need the orange wire on 3, it may actually slow down the B/band. Remember that if you have a phone plugged into the same extension as the B/band you will need a splitter/filter but I expect you have one plugged in already.

    Hope this helps sort it.

New mystery, the phone has a pulse and is OK. the computer broadband is OK
when I plug them separately into the phone socket but when I plug both in with the DSL filter the phone does not work but the broadband is OK, I have tried with different DSL filters so it cannot be the filter is the problem. It is only when they are both plugged into the filter that the phone does not work. Can you help?

What happens when you plug the filter in, but only connect the phone line to the filter (no ADSL connection)?

The phone does not work it only works when plugged in by itself into the socket

Then it's got to be the filters...
Or a weird fault with the phone. Have you tried another handset?
You could also try your broadband with the phone unplugged, then with and without the filter. With the phone out it should work either way.
PS: you keep referring to your phone as having a 'pulse' . Do you mean a dial tone? If so, is your phone set to pulse dialling (older ones have this option) rather than tone dialling? It should be set to the latter.
