Hi
Ive just ran a credit check on myself and it has came back with a big red Default sign on it!
It says it was vodafone ltd
I called Vodafone and they said they cant find me anywhere on their systems so there is nothing they can do in connection with a credit amendment form etc.
Now i had a contract with them when i was 18 and lost my job leaving an outstanding debt for £165.00. The debt was outstanding for around 2 months but as soon as i started working again i paid the account off in full.
Now im really worried, as im thinking about looking into a mortgage to buy my first house. Now this was 4 years ago.
can anybody give me some help
Thanks

Was the debt sold on to a DCA? In which case Voda may have no record of it.
Your account was in default, that will remain there, but if the debt was subsequently cleared then that should also be noted on your credit history.
The entries remain for 6 years. No free lunch, and no free laptop0 -
Vodafone says they deal with over 8 third party collection agents and it would be almost impossible to try and find it, so they said i am best to just let the Default "Expire"??0

Do you not have a record of who you dealt with/paid after they sold it on? Bank records?
If you dispute an item on your credit file, you can apply to attach a 200 word statement to the file giving your version of events, that is then included whenever anyone appies to see your file.
The default will expire, but not for another 2 years, and will certainly affect your rating. No free lunch, and no free laptop0 -
if i was to just wait for the default to expire will it leave my file for good or will it always leave a "foot print" say?0

No, it is removed after 6 years. No free lunch, and no free laptop0

Hi DebtCollector,
If you still need some help with this could you email me your details using the 'Contact us' form on our website which you can get to here?
When sending your email could you include within the body of it a link to thread and the code WRT135 within the subject line to make sure it comes through to us?
Thanks,
Lee
