PDSA Donations

Hi, i'm taking my dog to the PDSA vet tomorrow with suspected water infection.
My question is, are the donations compulary?
I fully intend to give a donation, of course - but i can't until i have been paid which is next week. I am extremely grateful for the service they provide and i do realise that if they couldn't help i'd have to find the money for a vet.
The other alternative is, could i give them a post-dated cheque?
How much would you deem a suitable donation? I don't want to insult, but at the same time i don't have much money and don't want to get into trouble with bills etc!!
Thanks
[edit] Actually while i'm here, i have another question. I have to try and take a water sample in - this is fine i have a sterile sample bottle which i've been given for antenatal appointments.
I'm assuming i can't take the sample too early, the appt is at 12:30pm tomorrow, would it be okay to take it at about 9am or is that too long? I'm thinking it'll be easier to get it when i let her out into the garden first thing, although obviously not looking forward to it cos her pee smells like rotten fish at the mo

I *think* it's ok kept in the fridge, but i'm not a Vet so don't know, however when I had to provide one for the GP the Receptionist said they'd stick it in the fridge & it's be ok until the Nurse came in, you could call & check they should be open. The morning would be ok though.
Are you going to the Practice or the Hospital? I only know about the Hospitals & some don't give a donation & say they forgot, their Pet is still seen. I'm sure if you explain that you can't until payday they'll be fine, not sure how the practices work x0 -
It's a PetAid Hospital - i guess there's always a worry that my pet will be treated differently if i haven't donated  I've heard stories but i'm sure they can't be true, or can they?!
Thanks re. the wee, i'll try in the morning, not something i predict is going to be easy - i don't suppose there's a trick to it? :rotfl:0 -
No you can't normally keep it in the fridge and idealy it needs to be as fresh as possible (according to my vet when I asked this) I think with human samples the tests are slightly different (ie sent to a lab). If you are worried about the timing (not always possible to make puss go on demand), call the pdsa in advance and ask what they suggest, normally the vet will stick in a dip stick straight away so it could be done in advance of seeing puss (as long as the vet is there)0

I have heard of people sliding a shallow food serving spoon under dogs whilst in mid flow.... not easy I expect!0 -

Hi thanks for this, i'll definitely leave it til tomorrow then. I did tell them on the phone (it took about 4 hours to get through ) that i suspect a water infection and she still gave me an appt and said to bring a sampleforeign_correspondent wrote: »I have heard of people sliding a shallow food serving spoon under dogs whilst in mid flow.... not easy I expect!
Thanks this is a good idea, she had peed in the house this morning when i got up, she doesn't usually so i feel bad that i didn't wake up earlierShe's the quickest pee'er ever aswell so i'm gonna have to put her on the lead and take her out whilst fully equipped, she'll no doubt do a few 360 turns wondering what i'm doing - i'm dreading it, i suspect she's gonna end up knocking it out of my hand so time to test my reflexes :rotfl:

The wee collecting was a disaster.I tried using a ladle thing (thanks FC) and the back garden is muddy so let her out the front but as soon as we got out there a load of kids appeared and she got all excited and had the wee while moving:rolleyes: I got the tiniest ever dribble :rolleyes:0

Hi
The treatment you get can not be given on the basis of your donation because you get the treatment then give a donation after being seen by the vet at our petaid hospital.

Well we went and at the desk i gave her my proof of eligibility etc and she asked if i wanted to donate, i said i couldn't today but could i have a form to send one in? She said don't worry just leave it til next time.
Dog was seen, vet managed to test the tiny dribble of wee, confirmed it had a little blood in and gave her some antibiotics.
When i went to collect the tablets i was asked at the dispensary if i wanted to give a donation (again) and i said i'm making mine at a later date. She shoved the tablets in my hand and gave me a right filthy look  Not being funny but i don't look like a scummy chav so i thought that was a bit uncalled for lol
Never mind, i'll assume she was having a bad day. Gotta go back next week with another sample (nooooooo!) to see if the infection has cleared!0 -
Glad s/he has got the treatment they need, there are a couple of receptionist at our one a bit like that just let it fly over your head. They are there to care for your pet and you give what you can when you can.Everyone is entitled to their opinionEllie 25/12/070
