I know a VISA debit card is for 18 years old or above. If LTSB get rid of Electron cards, what will under 18 use? A cash card?

They will probably get VISA as well. It is very possible to be overdrawn with all card types, including Electron/Solo. Some banks are known to issue Maestro/Visa cards to 16+ depending on income. What will probably happen is that there will be tighter floor limits and more stringent checks carried out now when using Maestro and Visa cards.

There are far too many card types in the market, and it must be expensive to process and issue all the different types. Ideally there should be just Visa, Mastercard, and AMEX. (1 card from each company) to do the lot. As it stands VISA operate 3 different cards, Mastercard 3 and AMEX just the one.

There really isn't any need for them all.

I can’t see why Visa Debt cards are for 18+? I had a Visa Debt card with Barclays when I was 16.
Thinking about it, my first credit card I applied for was with Barclays when I was 18 and they upgraded it a gold card, I was then upgraded to a platinum when I was 19 for some reason. Don’t know why to be honest, I was a student and my parents weren’t bringing in hundreds of thousands. I guess a lot of it must be down to where you live, or the fact the bank sometimes make mistakes.

"I'm sorry we don't accept Visa Electron"

At least some people will not get looked upon as second class citizens because they don't qualify for a full blown Visa.

Just because the card will now display the proper Visa sign doesn't mean you will be able to go overdrawn with it any more so than you would have been able to with an Electron, neither does it mean you will be issued with a 'credit limit' so there should be no reason why under 18's shouldn't be able to use one.
