First time abroad - just read bad report on apartments!!

One other thing about reviews is that in typical vent fashion things often get blown out of all proportion ... minor inconveniences are allowed to fester until that person manages to exaggerate it so much in their own minds that trivialities end up being major issues ... but then of course the bigger you can make the issue sound in your own mind the more compensation you think you can claim. Often such things are a very sad reflection of the person writing the vent as opposed to the item being vented against.
The hotel and transport to the hotel is a very small part of the holiday .. the biggest part of any holiday is what you and your group/family make it ... if you do not know how to enjoy yourselves you will always have a miserable time ... a time that you will fill by looking for fault so that you can blame someone else.

I did the same once when I booked a last minute cheapy. Have to say a lot of the comments I read about the hotel were correct. we had a "chat" from the tour reps on the way from the airport on what to do if we saw a cockroach!
However you just have to make the best of it now. The best I could say was it was at least clean.
We hired a car and got out and about as much as possible. Something we do anyway....there are so many much nicer places away from the package tour resorts...see the real spain! Try to focus on having fun ..not criticising.x x x0 -
go with an open mind
as long as its clean got all the necessities and free of little friends (insects etc...)
i am happy
i don't go on holiday to STAY in the HOTEL 24hours
Honesty is the best policy doesn't matter which web site
you are on!
if i had known then what i know now!

Perhaps because I have lived and worked in West Africa and the Caribbean I can never understand why people get so uptight about a few insects either in your room or outside. They forget that they are holidaying in a tropical or sub-tropical area and you are bound to get them. Don't forget you are bigger than they are and most are completely harmless. So just relax and enjoy your holiday and don't worry about the creepy-crawlies.What part of "A whop bop-a-lu a whop bam boo" don't you understand?0

what we were to do was phone reception and say cucaracha and someone would come to deal with it....apparently standing on them (which I have to say would be my first instinct) would spread their eggs around...
Have to say we didnt see one...but it must have been a real problem if they felt obliged to tell us on the way from the airport. The holiday from hell websites also mentioned rats and mosquito problems which given the location on a lagoon wasnt too difficult to understand. I have to add we didnt see any of them either!!!
I dont mind a little wildlife on holiday ...just not in my bedroom!!x x x0 -
Cheers for all the comments and advice.
I have had a great laugh at some of the comments and the link to the site with the funnies had me in stiches!:rotfl: :rotfl:
I have been looking forward to this for years and am certainly not planning to spend too much time in the apartments anyway. As long as it's clean I will be happy. I want to see and do as much as possible in the week and enjoy sampling the "foreign muck" food, trying out my basic Spanish on those "foreigners" who will be there and perhaps try a sangria or three

i tried my basic Spanish when i was a nipper in Tenerife. I asked for dos naranja at a drinks stall. The Spanish bird looked at me as though i'd asked if i could sleep with her dead grandma. So i asked in English and got my drinks.
First and only time i've tried so i'm sticking with English and pointing.0 -
Many years ago (I was about 7 or 8 at the time we were on holiday in Spain (Calella if memory serves me correctly). We had all gone to a bullfight in a massive stadium (I was quite upset by the end of it) but when we left we came out the wrong door (which took us through thwe middle of where they were butchering the animals that had been killed .. which was worse).scheming_gypsy wrote:i tried my basic Spanish when i was a nipper in Tenerife. So now we are lost and we could not find the tour bus. My father approached a random person in the street and with his best pigeon spanish asked the person were the relevant street was thaqt we were looking for. The chap looked at him and then said something like 'Now there is a Belfast accent .. haven't heard one years' .. the chap had moved from Belfast to Barcelona many years before .. he took us to the bus.
