what I dont get is why the hell would you go abroad to seek out British things?
To me the whole point of travel is to see and experiance different stuff.
You can have a 'fry-up' every single day here.0 -
The problem with reviews is that people are more likely to spend the time typing away to vent than they are to say a big thank you .. you only have to look at this board for a good example ... 25K 'vent' postings, 2K '5-star' postings. Also, even if you read a review the incredible thing is that despite a review being very positive the one thing that sticks in your mind is the complaints (many of which are often totally minor and did not affect the overall enjoyment). On the other hand some people are only happy if they are complaining about something

Can I add that my favourite complaint of all time was a lady on a cruise ship. Apparently she was found at reception in tears giving off bucketfuls because she had paid extra for cabin with a window and was very upset that all she could see was the quayside whereas she wanted a sea view
IvanI don't care about your first world problems; I have enough of my own!0 -
Or
Hotel was crap-No PORRIDGE at breakfast. (SPAIN) this one I heard personally. It was 4* and just about perfect.
Another comment from same person-"They shouldn't let so many Spanish people in"-I gave up and decided to ignore for rest of break.

we booked a 'budget' florida holiday for last september, and if we had believed the reviews, we would never have stepped on the plane.
hotel was fab for the money, staff were helpful and courteous, and we could not have asked for more.
you dont go on holiday to spend all day in the hotel. its a base where you sleep, wash and change. dont let a few bad reviews put you off - go, enjoy, and have a great time :beer:know thyselfNid wy'n gofyn bywyd moethus...0 -

I've heard that sometimes these bad reviews are written by rival hotels / tour operators etc.

Arriving at 2am shouldn't be a problem because your rep is at the airport to see you into the hotel (if you're getting a bus transfer and not hiring a car). There are staff waiting to check you in so if there is a problem when you go to your room, go straight back down to the desk as soon as you find it (before it's just night porters left). You might catch a rep still but they're usually gone by that time, but there is usually a 24 hour phone number to contact them if it is a really bad problem that the staff aren't helping with.
Remember if it is good to go back onto the sites you've seen bad reviews on so the next person won't just see bad reports!
Enjoy your hard earned break

americans are particularly out of line at moaning about stuff.0

In fact, they have such a bad reputation for this, that some new advice for American tourists travelling abroad has just been published :-nelly wrote:americans are particularly out of line at moaning about stuff.

i also have a confession to make ...i would never write a review on the hotel i stay at 4 or 5 times a year as it's that good that it copes by word of mouth reviews.....i really wouldn't want it becoming inundated with extra prospective bookings as the owners would slam the prices up......i don't believe i'm the only person who thinks like this0
