Oh gosh, its one thing after another isn't it?!
Personally I'd not want to work in that kind of environment but you don't want to be too fussy, I understand.
Were you not told what/where the job was before going there?
Perhaps going again tomorrow would show commitment and then if it is bad again you'll be justified in turning down the job.

maybe ring first and ask if they ant you to go in. If things are bad between owner & chefs they might prefer it if you don't go in until they've settled their differences.
Chefs are bad tempered when they're working (i should know, my OHs a chef and he throws tantrums like Gordon Ramsay when hes in a kitchen and things aren't going his way!) - it may be that your first night should be taken as a warning ... if they were throwing stuff around while you were there and didn't seem to bother about your presence while they were doing it, i'd be a little wary about working there too .. . and if you do go back, i'd certainly be very careful not to make any mistakes or pee the boss/chef off as he may start throwing things in your direction0 -

Tina if you feel too scared to answer your phone then you don't want to face going back in there.
I understand that a kitchen can be a stressful place but I don't think throwing things, especially in the direction of a brand new employee, is acceptable. It doesn't seem like they were keen to make you feel welcome or be professional around you, to make a good impression.
I'd not go back if i were you.
Does your JSA depend on trying the job, will there be any problems with that? I guess that's the only reason I suggested going one more time, just to prove that you do want a job and will stick with it a bit.
No-one would want you to do the job if the situation stays like that - don't need to add that to all the other stress do you?!

If you pick the wrong night to order chips in our local chinese (not for me but for OH - curry & chips is his fav) you can hear the chef in the background shouting what I assume to be Chinese swearwords whilst throwing woks about - this is why I collect it - OH is too scared.
Must admit it makes me laugh but I dont think I would like working like it.!0 -
