I do online banking regularly, my job is in IT which means I keep on top of anti virus and malware programs, but these programs can't offer 100% protection.
If you use online banking regularly, then why did you not see this new credit card on your account?
With Lloyds you can usually see all your accounts and you would have seen the additional card. You can also check your personal details to see the new address that's been logged.
It sounds like someone's really messed up."One day I realised that when you are lying in your grave, it's no good saying, "I was too shy, too frightened."
Because by then you've blown your chances. That's it."0 -
Could it be a simple screw up by the bank and they are using a convenient cover story?"A nation's greatness is measured by how it treats its weakest members." ~ Mahatma Gandhi

The reason for getting a transcript was to find out exactly what information the fraudster did know.
That would also give a clue to how exactly the crime was committed, which the bank don't want everyone to know or they'll all be doing it.
Clearly there's some kind of loophole/technique here that was exploited. It's far cheaper for the bank to take a minimal loss from the fraudsters that know about this, than it is for them to overhaul their security at a cost of millions. Once the incidences of fraud starts impacting on their losses significantly (or customers start posting the incidences on MSE) then they'll have to do something about it.
Until then, Mum's the word.......:lipsrseal0 -

I think phone banking is a safer bet than internet banking, but the banks are being hit so hard with fraud attempts these days, nothing is a safe bet. I think I remember I just had to put in bank acount numbers etc. and date of birth, using an automated system, before using phone banking, so maybe it is an idea for everyone with an account at lloyds, to set up phone banking security words/numbers, even if you don't plan to use the service.
my card account was cloned, but it was never out of my site, I strongly suspect internet banking to have been the culprit.
royal mail are rubbish with our post, my statements often don't get delivered to me, so it shows how easy it is to steal our personal details, regardless of shredding! and the post office truly don't give a damn.0 -
We had a similar strange fraud. My husband's MINT card was fraudulently used, the bank caught it and sorted it all out (great service) but when we tried to work out how they got the details we realised that he had never used it online or telephone, only at pos but they too had all the security info. I am now paranoid about giving my card details to anyone other than pos transactions and check my accounts daily.
Makes life a tiny bit difficult but a lot less difficult than having to deal with the aftermath of fraud.0 -

Years ago before card use was widespread, a friend had a few grand go missing from his bank account. While the bank did not admit it directly, the inferrence was that it was an 'internal incident'....
There's no reason a bank employee is less likely steal from you than a retail shop employee (and who has greater opportunity?)0
