It'll be ok for the FTA channels (ie Freesat channels)
Also if some PC World / Curry stores have on clearance Grundig Freesat HD boxes for £250 -
would i need an areial connection with this because my aerial isn't getting much signals here...0

So what is the difference between that satellite system with the dish compared to this one:
http://www.inest.co.uk/products/Worth_It_Freeview_Set_Top_Box.asp
I see it everywhere but I don't think these come with the dish? So if I have the dish, I wouldn't need an areial to watch TV right?0 -
That's a Freeview box.
Freeview is digital TV transmitted from land based TV transmitters and you need a TV aerial to pick it up.
The other system is Freesat which is a digital service transmitted by the Astra satellite (same satellite as Sky TV) and you need a dish to receive it.
Freeview boxes are NOT the same as Freesat boxes.
If you buy the Aldi system you will need to align the dish correctly to receive anything at all. This is considerably more dificult than aligning a TV aerial because it needs to be done to a greater degree of acuracy.0 -
I have 2 options I think here... Basically, my flatmate will be getting sky for the living room so I'd imagine it would have some sort of connection to the satellite outside? My question is can I SHARE the connection and be watching different channels at the same time?
The 2nd option would be for me to buy the actual dish too... but obviously since I am renting my flat, I'm not going to be nailing the dish on lol... so is there some sort of stand I can put it on and is it technique sensitive in terms of the dish alignment or is the signal quite strong anyway and where the dish points is of little concern?
Thx0 -
IF your mate already has a satellite dish installed, you will need to buy a dual lnb(about 10 pound), it is a really simple job to then change the single lnb on his dish with your dual lnb OR which is the cheaper option use the dish that comes with the system-just point the dish in the same direction as the dish he already has, and use the satellite finder provided in you system. LUCKILY the astra satellite which transmits sky programmes has a very strong signal and should take no longer than 5 minutes to set up
as to actually sharing his connection, you can and you cant!!!
satellite signals are broadcast 2 different ways either horizontally or vertically(h or v)
if he is watching a channel which is a h you will be able to view any other channel which is an h, but not a v, and vica versa0 -
You just need the correct type of LNBsatellite signals are broadcast 2 different ways either horizontally or vertically(h or v)
if he is watching a channel which is a h you will be able to view any other channel which is an h, but not a v, and vica versa
http://www.!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!/tech/lnb.htm"Quad-output" or "Quad universal" LNB
This universal LNB can feed four separate receivers. Each receiver has independent control of polarisation and band via 13/17v switching and 22kHz o/off respectively.
This LNB is used with the new Sky Digiboxes and Freesat receivers that have two LNB inputs and internal Hard Drives for recording a programme while you watch another. Two LNB outputs go to this "Sky Plus" Digibox (or Freesat+) and the other two LNB outputs can go either to two standard Digiboxes or to one other "Sky Plus" (or Freesat+) Digibox. As illustrated, this LNB is not suitable for use with a Sky minidish. The Sky minidish version has a spigot fixing.

Please don't call that Aldi system Freesat. It's free satellite, but it ain't Freesat.0
