Help choosing an Orange Contract
Hi everyone,
Basically i'm upgrading form PAYG to a 12 month contract. Ideally i'd like to stay with Orange to keep my number and also due to the fact that they seem to have the best customer service i've never had any problems with them really. I'm not a heavy user I average £30 a month on PAYG the reason i'm upgrading though is I tihnk i'll be using my phone a bit more in the future. I've spoken to Orange and I think the best suited to me is the Direct 100 deal thats 100 minutes anytime any network and 100 texts for £20 a month. Can anyone recommend an orange contract better than this or any other network that could offer something better than this?
Thanks
chris

Hi Chris
It is extremely easy to take your number to another network if you wanted to do this, though I can understand that if you've been a really happy Orange customer then you are likely to want to stay with them.
You can definitely get a better deal than you have been quoted but it all depends on whether you would be happy with a cashback deal which involves purchasing the contract via a third party retailer. Some of the commission the retailer gets from the network for your connection is returned to you as cashback at intervals during the contract. You simply return bills to the retailer at specified times. This can reduce the overall contract cost considerably. There are even 12 month contracts with 12 months free line rental.
It all depends if you want to go this route or if you prefer getting the best contract deal direct from a network.
Do you think 100 minutes and 100 SMS will meet your requirements? It's important to get the tariff right.
Do you require a new handset with your contract?
Cheers

Hi Mark,
I saw a few of those cashback contracts, ideally I don't really want to spend more than £30 a month on the contract even if that does involve cashback at some point just because i'm a soon to be graduate so money is still going to be tight for a little while! I saw orange also did a 200 minutes 500 texts for £30 a month that might end up being best because I can't guarantee that the other contract will definately be enough for what I need.
Yeah the reason i'm considering a contract now is because my existing phone is on it's last legs now when it rings it sounds like a strangled cat! Theres another thing i've no idea which phone to choose! I was thinking either a Nokia 6230i or Sony Ericsson W810 I dont really tend to like the flip phones really.
Thanks again for your help

The flext tariffs from T-mobile are very good, However you are tied into an 18 month contract. Check out their website https://www.tmobile.co.uk for more details.0

The only problems i'm seeing with the free line rental phones for example i've found a contract £30 a month 200 anytime minutes and 9 months free line rental but only 75 texts that seems really low to me?0

Hi Mark,
Thanks for your help much appreciated. I saw the 25% off t-mobile offer Relax 35 contract with 500 cross network minutes and 200 texts for £26.25 a month. I cant really find anything better than that for the money. Obviously i'd rather stay on orange but i dont think they'll be able to match that one really?
Thanks Again

However, stick with a more reputable online retailer and you can still get a better deal than £26.25 per month. For example mobileshop currently offer the following:
T-Mobile Relax 35
Nokia 3120 / Nokia 6021 / Motorola L6
9 months free line rental
Cost per month after cashback: £8.75
If these handsets do not suit then there are plenty of other cashback deals for this tariff. The amount of cashback obviously reduces as you choose higher spec handsets so it all depends on your handset requirements.
Cheers
