Oh Kittie, tears are streaming down my cheeks just thinking of you are your dog.
We had to have our much loved Lab put to sleep last September and it was the worst day of my life. I knew it was best but like you wish he had justbfallen asleep. We had him cremated at a local pet crem but afterwards I felt awful just walking out with a box of ashes. We put him in the garden and built a a little garden around him but when it rained I sobbed my heart out because he didn't like the rain but I couldn't bring him in. I know, it all sounds pathetic but I wish I'd thought more about it first - it was the fact that we needed to sort it all out before DD arrived home from school.
Thinking of you ( and still sobbing) off to make a coffee!
Hope she sleeps wellI haven't got one!0 -
hi Kittie - although I can't offer any practical advice, I just wanted to say thinking of you . I have a 4 year old springer, Charlie, who I see every day to take him for one of his walks, but lives with his 'dad' since we split and I still miss him terribly (Charlie, not his 'Dad'!)
Makes me want to cry when I think about losing him as I have no children and I really feel for you.

I know exactly how you are feeling as recently I had to have my 22 year old horse put to sleep.
Please take a look at this web site

As for the food I would just keep trying with her fave foods.
So sorry I can't help more0 -
Thinking of you
But what a lucky dog to be so well loved - it sounds as if he will be ready to let go of life soon, and I can only hope for all of us that our passing is so peaceful.
You can buy Royal Canin online, if you hunt around. Once you've decided which of their products you want, just google it.Ex board guide. Signature now changed (if you know, you know).0 -
oh you are all so sweet. Thank you
Livinginhope it sounds as though we are in parallel and I`m thinking about you too. Let me know how things are please
I have had two dogs put down in the past eight years and the first one was very peaceful. The second one was not, as he shrieked and cried because the vet appeared to miss the vein. It still haunts me and that is why I am hoping that my dog dies in her sleep
I tried her with a tiny bit of poached fish and some egg this evening but she won`t look at them, although egg has always been her favourite. I am taking her out on the field soon, around the bushes where the rabbits lurk and I will put some james wellbeloved food in my pocket. She might well have a bit when she is distracted by the rabbits
I can`t help thinking about the day I went to pick my DD up from work experience at the vets. She was late coming out so I went in for her. She gave me this tiny border collie cross puppy to hold and it snuffled it`s way into my neck. The whole litter had been dumped at the vets. Naturally I succumbed and took her home to join our two other dogs. In the whole of her life she has never done anything wrong. Time has passed too quickly
You are right jobbingmusician. I would love to end my life like my dog in warmth and comfort with people who love me.
ageandjo thank you for the link. I found a caring place at magor and the woman sounded very empathetic0 -
As a couple of previous posters have mentioned warming dog meat through sometimes helps as it releases the smell and dogs appetite can disappear when they start to get older and loose their sense of smell. Also putting meaty gravy on food, especially if it is biscuits can do the same job.
It might be worth giving your vet a ring just to see if they think it's worth taking your doggie for a check-up if she's not had one recently. I took my dog (15yrs)to be PTS just after christmas 2004 as he seemed to be really struggling but they checked him over, gave me some medication to try and he perked up enough to last until Friday 30th July 2004. It was a very emotional time for us as I gave birth to my ds 3 days later and I so wanted Jossdog to meet his new family member.
My thoughts are with you."all endings are also beginnings. We just don't know it at the time..."0 -
Just wanted to say I know how you feel.
I have PTS 3 dogs in the past - none of them were easy and I felt like it was a child that I was parting with - my dogs are very dear to me - some people think they're just animals but they are part of the family especially if it's just you and them. I'm sitting here reading your post with my 20month old puppy sleeping (and breaking wind spectacularly!) on my lap and just felt like I should write something.
With regards to the food issue, try cheese - all my dogs have loved it and the smell drives them bonkers, even when they were poorly.
Best of luck,
Thinking of you,

Very sorry to hear about your dog, like the others have said, I would take her to the vet's for a check up - maybe it is something that can be treated easily, you never know. Hope she does get better.0

My beautiful border collie went exactly the same way in the last few days of her 15 years with me. After a consultation / tests with the vet, it turned out she had cancer and the kindest thing was to let her go [pts]. I say kindest, but five years later, I still feel like I murdered her and maybe she could have had another few weeks with us if I had let nature take it's course.
When I first left home, it was just me and the dog, then along came husband, best friend [who I met through my dog and her kids] children, away went husband and she was still there - ever faithful, dying a couple of days before DD2's 2nd birthday.
We haven't had any more pets since then, even though I know the kids would like another dog. It is still too painful. Even writing this reminds me of the pain of her last few minutes at the vets. But there were a lot of good times too, and my heart goes out to you kittie, as you approach the end. I know it was amongst one of the hardest things I have had to face, and yet I had 15 wonderful years - her pinching my dinner off my plate, sitting under DD1's chair at dinner time, knowing she would get half of my DD's dinner, hunting the pigs ears [her favourite snack] chasing the squirrels, moving to the other side of the room whenever she had a gas attack or always knowing when I needed a hug, and sitting by my side.
Apologies for going on, but I miss her terribly and your thread bought back so much kittie. Hugs to you, and fingers crossed this isn't quite the end, yet.
Regards

loosing a pet is always hard and I would say take her to the vet to see if they can think of anythign that will perk her up, if not then maybe it's time to let her go?
If she has stopped eating then she is in an animal way choosing not to live, I know it's hard but the right thing is to be there with her and to make sure that she doesn't drag on for weeks in pain and just waiting to die
My thoughts are with you and if you want to come chat to a load of very very nice animal peeps then pop over to https://www.animal-rescuers.com/bbv2... there are a lot of nice people who will be able to give you the benefitof their experience and who knows what it's like to loose pets
