    Hi There,

I'm still quite new to this so if I waffle then I do apologise.

Going back to the recycling mobile phones bit, I've exchanged several old mobiles at Envirfone http://www.envirofone.com/index1.asp?

All you do is indicate what phone you want to get rid of & they'll tell you how much cash they're willing to give you for it or they give you more money in Argos Gift Vouchers (in the shape of an Envirofone/Argos voucher card).

For example, a Sony Ericsson W800i is worth 476 "enviropoints" which equates to £55.93 in cash or £64.31 to be used in Argos.

You then fill in the form, they send out a freepost envelope for you to send the phone back in & then within 20 days of them receiving your phone (after they've tested it) you either get a cheque or your Envirofone/Argos card is validated. Winner, huh :rotfl:

They also pay all the postage & make a donation to charity on your behalf!! Can it get any better!?!

I've made £66.47 in Argos vouchers, the OH wants to buy a power tool with it but I'm sure my need for a new hairdryer is greater!!!! :D

    Hope this helps

Anyone recommend a way of selling/recycling a childhood mounted stamp collection (1000s of stamps, various countries). Had a look at the Guide Dogs site, but they don't seem to get very much for it (would rather just give them a few quid!).

Enjoyed reading Hugo's comments about scrap metal - reminded me of my dad. He kept all old copper wire, pans, kettles and metal of every possible kind in the old air-raid shelter. Right ol' Steptoe! Flogged it when he had enough to fill a van and got quite a bit of cash.

  • Nice one! I have a friend who did something similar when a camera shop were offering a trade-in - £50 off if he traded in any used SLR lens. Since he couldn't get a better deal elsewhere, he bought an old manual focus lens for £10 so he could take advantage of the offer, thus saving £40.
Does anyone know of anywhere that accepts Epson and Epson compatible inkjet cartridges for recycling? I don't know why, but all the inkjet cartridge recycling envelopes I've ever seen accept other major brands but can't recycle Epson cartridges.

If you go to this Epson page and put in your postcode, it will tell you your nearest recycling places for cartridges.

I found a brilliant site to recycle, buy & sell books and it's enviromentally friendly too! I sold 3 of my daughter's text books from uni for £3 each minus the 50p postage it cost me.
I suggested she sell them at uni but that seemed too difficult, this was the perfect solution.I've made her £7.50 from something that would have been discarded otherwise.
It wouldn't be suitable for all books. For these I think this beat e-bay and i'm really chuffed with the result.Have a look at https://www.GreenMetropolis.com and see what you think!
This is my first time writing and i'm nervous but I hope I've got this across alright! I might try again!

    Hi there

I listed a few books on GreenMetropolis a couple of months ago but none have sold. Maybe it's only certain books that it's suitable for. Mine were all novels. Perhaps I should list a few academic books. Have you had any further sales since? Regards.

I recommend https://www.mopay.co.uk for selling mobile phones, seem to be more generous moneywise!

scrap dealers pay about 45p kilo for alluminium .So if you are into recycling any alu drinks cans {like coke/stella} A beer can is worth about 1p each .just put them in a seperate black bag and any other bits of alluminium scraps you find until you have enough .you can help the environment and get a bit of cash in return....Note ..not all drinks are alu..you can tell by this..Alu cans have a shiny base/magnets don,t stick to them/they mormally have alu printed on them...steel cans{like most pepsi,s} are heavier/have a dull base/stick to magnets

"This isn't about flogging it on eBay"

And what's wrong with that? Actually, I've not got as far as eBay yet, but decided to sell several hundred books through Amazon - and have so far received about £1000 in four months. It's not hugely hard work, and it's fun. Now to get back to the remaining (several hundred - c 150) books ...

    Eric,
do Amazon only accept only modern books i.e. novels, - or do they accept old books and annuals.
