mobile internet confusion!

im just delving into the world of mobile internet and after looking around at a few different phones and price plans im totally confused and hope somebody might be able to help...

the mobile companies seem to mention 'unlimited internet' in plan monthly prices but then i noticed an extra £5 cost with t-mobile which seems to be unavoidable if you want to ue the internet (ie check your email and browse while out and about without having to find free wifi) on your phone..

is this right? and do all the mobile phone companies have the same thing?

ive been looking at 'sim only' deals with virgin and t-mobile.. for example a virgin deal is £18 a month with 300 mins and unlimited texts and online browsing... if i got myself a phone from ebay and went with this, would there be extra costs on top of that £18 (ie another £5!) for using the internet??

totaaly confused and feel like the phone companies are being a little sneaky about the actual costs....

ALSO - anyone have any thoughts on the G1 phone that t-mobile have? I can pick one up on ebay to use with a sim only contract but wondered if they are any good?

thanks!

    The G1 rawks, frankly.

You can put it on a SIM only contract, but I have to ask why you'd want to? It's not really cheaper that way.

I've got a G1 on Combi 30 (700 minutes / unlimited texts) + Web 'n Walk (the internet bit) at £34.25pm, but on a cashback contract which brings it down to £17.92pm through BuyMobilePhones.

The G1 is good, but it is chunky and the battery isn't stellar. I still love mine to bits, though...

roaming charges (the internet bit) vary from company to company. Some have a maximum daily cost, others , like o2, have a web bolt on which I think in their case costs £7.50 a month for "unlimited" internet use

If you can afford it the G2 on T-Mobile is a LOT better then the G1.
As far as internet bundles go here is a quick breakdown.
    T-Mobile
either included in price plan or extra £5.00 for life of contract or £7.50 to be added or dropped as you want. Amount FUP 1gig. Larger bundles can be purchased.
O2 £7.50 unlimited data bundle not for modem use. £30.00 for 3 gig and use as a modem.
Vodafone £5.00 for 500mb or £20.00 for 5 gig plus modem use ect.
Orange £5.00 for 500mb for life of contract. £7.50 for 250 mb to be added will. £10.00 for 1 gig or £5.00 for unlimited evening and weekend data usage. 1 gig fup.
3 do various bundles but I do not recommend them to anyone.

What does the "G2" (HTC Hero) give over the G1 (HTC Dream)?

Better camera and battery yes, sleeker I suppose and Rosie is cool - but you can get the Rosie UI on the G1 and the G1 is the only Android phone with a physical keyboard.
