  • Id definatley look into some insurance for your cats, i took pet plan full life cover out my my cat gravy, then 3 weeks later he became seriously ill, so il infact at 1 point they said he might have 2 be put 2 sleep, total vets bill came to just under £1,ooo with out my insurance i wudda had 2 sell the kids 2 pay 4 his treatment...lol (jokeing) they now also pay for his special food which he needs for the rest of his life.

Oh it might also be worth mentioning that his illness was caused by dry food, he got a blocked urethra and was unable to pee due 2 crystals and stioes forming, our other cat was unnafected by this so i guess he was just unlucky

most pound shops have fleecy pet blankets in and bags of toys, i also agree about not buying a bed as ive bought a few different ones but he prefers 2 sleep either on my bed or on a towel... hes now claimed as his own...lol
Have great fun with your cats,
    loops :)

I might be getting a kitten soon.

Its from a neighbour of my sister. It won't be 'done' as it'll be approx 8-ish weeks old.

I assume will just need the same stuff as for a cat. Do kittens need to be treated different from cats iyswim?

    Yes :)

The food requirements are different for starters :) With kittens it's even more important that you find out what they were eating and then change it gradually as their little tummies can't handle chage as easily as a grown cat. Whilst tey're young they need kitten food (for about the first year) to help them get the right nutrients etc. The flea stuff you use might only be for adults so check.
When you first seperate a kitten from it's mum and litter mates you need to spend a lot of time with it as it's a huge lonely world suddenly and make sure you allow it a hidyhole somewhere (cat carrier could be used for this, just take the door off and put a comfy blanket in) so it has a "safe" place.

I have taken in foster kittens and I have 2 cats of my own and whilst I wouldn't swap them for the world then I know it's a lot of work each time.

Pet insurance is a must!!! I know it isn't cheap BUT I pay about £10 a month for my two... and already one policy has had to pay out over £1500 when the dopey one tried car chasing (I assume out of boredom) and no matter what saving plan you use I think it would take about 12 years at £10 a month to save the equivalent and it could have easily cost me more. I use direct line and they paid up without any moaning at all.

I would agree with this Manicdays - when we got our youngest from the CPL she slept beside me in a cat bed (I put this on the bed beside me when OH was nightshift) just touching her and reassuring her when she was a bit moany - we tried it with the middle one, but she was from a wild cat family and wouldnt let anyone touch her for about 5yrs !! - the first night we brought her in with us and when we woke up she was under the wardrobe in the spare room.

Does anyone elses cat/s dribble? Seriously, just dribble, uncontrollably, but not all the time, but a lot of the time??? Seemingly when they relaxed or excited??? Why???

    Thanks

Excess salivation can be a symptom of rotting teeth - the poor thing might have really bad toothache. It could also be something stuck in your cat's mouth, or growing in it. You need to take your cat to the vet to find out what is going on.

One of my cats dribbles when he is very fussy, sometimes even from his nose - but only when really purry and being fussed.

One of mine dribbles when hes getting attention too, he gets really excited and carried away, and drools all over our hands. Hes done this from being a kitten, yet his brother has never done it, hes much more reserved :)

Hello everyone, My cat of 16 yrs died a week ago last Friday, she was an adorable cat, very affectionate, who was bought by hubby for my 18th birthday, she survived 4 toddlers in the house and was a constant companion.

I decided to check out the local cat rehoming websites and saw this appeal:

    http://www.shua.org.uk/cats/pleas/suki/

The treatment Suki received in his kitten days was tamed down for the website but lets say he had a horrific start to his life. For 2 years he has sat in the shelter watching everyone pass him by and choose the cute little kittens at the end of the run.

Anyway, on Monday I went to the cat centre to meet him and he is the most loving cat, he is long haired and very fluffy too. He joined our family on Wednesday and I swear he has always lived here, he has taken to us so well. He is litter trained, neutered and microchipped, although he did spray all over the hamster on their first meeting !

What they did say however, is although he has been treated with frontline he has FAD - flea allergy disease - I have googled it but just wondered if anyone else had any experience of this please ?

Here is another piccie of Suki with my daughter (he is a boy cat but cos he was so small they mistakenly thought he was a girl)

    taegsuki.jpg

We have decided now once Suki has settled in to get him a companion probably around July time, so back to the thread title we will have 2 cats soon too !!

I bought Suki pet bowls priced at 39p in Wilkinsons and the cat litter in Tescos was reduced to 50p a bag. The cat stratching post is too small for him and although he has a new cat bed he prefers anything else. Reading about the insurance I will definitely look into this for both Suki and the new cat when he/she arrives.

Good Luck OP with your 2 new cats, my hubby had worries about a cat rather than a kitten but Suki is house trained, neutered and microchipped so it has worked out very well for all of us - we were very lucky to have found him.
