Thanks for the headers but we need the WHOLE log in one post.

Please scan again in full and post the entire log as it stands now.

Stopping programs on start up is fairly straightforward but we don't want you to change anything yet as it will mess up the HJT log.

Let's look at the log first.

Ok, here goes. No changes made...at all. I've downloaded ccleaner, ewido, spybot etc as per inst at start of thread, but will do this part later tonight, when kids have gone to bed.

What you must remember is that a HJT log will be useless if you, OR any programs like the ones you mention, make any changes.

So ... you must run all the programs in the first 4 posts to that thread THEN scan with HJT and post a new log.

Just to let you know you have the VX2 infection and a couple of other things running that are bad. It may be that the programs you are going to run (Ewido etc.) will help but my guess is that some of them will still be there in your next log.

    One important thing.

This entry in your log ...

    O16 - DPF: {FF3F0F03-0F01-131A-A3F9-08F02B23E0CC} - http://66.117.37.13/gba851.exe

    ....is the "DIAL_JUICY.A" !!!!!! dialler.

Open HJT, scan with it then put a tick mark next to that entry immediately.

Close all open browsers - including this one - then hit "Fix Checked" at the bottom of the HJT window. That dialler will then go. One problem out of the way.

Post a new log when you have worked through all the scans and don't forget to let us know how your computer is behaving now.

    Hi pchelpman,
I have removed that ...'problem', and completed most of the task's refered to. The only one I couldn't get to do was ad aware, but sucessfully completed ccleaner, ewido, spybot and ms anti spyware.

    Anyway, here is the log;

What do you mean "...couldn't get to do..."? Do you mean it didn't work for some reason or just that you haven't managed to find time to run it yet?

Please keep trying it and let us know whether or not you get it to scan OK.

    Few other things.

Please print out or copy this page to Notepad in order to assist you when carrying out the following instructions.

Go to My Computer >Tools >Folder Options >View tab and make sure that Show hidden files and folders is enabled. Also make sure that the System Files and Folders are showing / visible. Uncheck the Hide protected operating system files option.

    KService.exe

You have one "Running Process" and one 023 "Service" for this. It's a form of P2P file sharing used by Sky.

Read a discussion on it here ......

    http://www.sysinternals.com/Forum/forum_posts.asp?TID=3819&PN=1

I can't tell if this is causing any problems so, at this stage, I'm not recommending its removal. You just read up on it and let me know what you think.

Actually, I doubt it's causing any problems on your machine but I feel I must point this out.

There are 4 entries you must get rid of with HJT. Same procedure as before.

Open HJT, scan with it then put a tick mark next to these entries (DON'T MISS ANY OUT).......

    R0 - HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Search,SearchAssistant =

    O2 - BHO: CeresObj Class - !!00000049-8F91-4D9C-9573-F016E7626484} - C:\WINDOWS\ceres.dll (file missing)

    O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [emogxz] c:\windows\system32\emogxz.exe

    O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [farmmext] C:\WINDOWS\farmmext.exe

Close all open browsers - including this one - then hit "Fix Checked" at the bottom of the HJT window.

Delete the following files indicated in bold IF they still exist: .....

    C:\WINDOWS\ceres.dll

    C:\windows\system32\emogxz.exe

    C:\WINDOWS\farmmext.exe

If you get an error when deleting a file right click on the file and click once on properties.

Then check to see if the Read Only attribute is checked/ticked. If it is uncheck/untick it and try deleting the file again.

Please post a fresh HijackThis log so that we can check if your system is clean.

    MOST IMPORTANTLY…..

Please also give us an update on how your system is operating now.

Unless we get an update from you on how your computer is behaving after each fix we don't always know what to suggest next.

Please also let us know whether your processes running at startup have reduced now (as per your original question).

Someone was telling me that I could stop programmes running on start up, but cant remember the steps he told me. Something to do with commend prompt and putrting startup in there. That would list all programmes , and would be able to disable from there??
You can do that, but if you're not happy writing BAT or CMD files, you might find it tricky.

I use a program called Xecutor which allows me to stagger programs at startup. I also use WinPatrol and SpyBot SD Resident to monitor what programs are added to my startup so that I can move them into Xecutor later if needed.

FWIW, I'm running a fairly slow machine with lots of memory, and I've currently got 67 processes without any problems, so don't worry too much about the number of programs running. But do worry about any unusual programs running, and worry about programs which are using too many resources (memory, CPU)

    Hi pchelpman

Sorry for the delay....another shift over with!!

    1) My pc hasn't really sped up any, while online.
    2) I have read the trhread about sky broadband, and may remove as per the instructions, as I don't really use it.
    3) I have deleted the above lines as per instruction.
    4) Process at startup are 51.

Please print out or copy this page to Notepad in order to assist you when carrying out the following instructions.

You are running HijackThis from a temporary location. Please move the folder to a permanent place on your hard drive such as C:\HJT. This will ensure that any backups made are not lost.

As before, go to My Computer >Tools >Folder Options >View tab and make sure that Show hidden files and folders is enabled. Also make sure that the System Files and Folders are showing / visible. Uncheck the Hide protected operating system files option.

I note you want to stop that Sky service. Simple approach first. This may work, it may not.

    Download CleanUp! here….. http://www.cleanup.stevengould.org/ .......

*WARNING* Cleanup deletes EVERYTHING out of temp/temporary folders and does not make backups. If you have a 64 bit Operating System (very unlikely) do NOT run Cleanup and let me know as we will use another utility

Run CleanUp! and click on CleanUp! button. When it asks you if you want to logoff, click on Yes.

Reboot your system in Safe Mode (by repeatedly tapping the F8 key until the menu appears).

Go into Hijack This->Config->Misc. Tools->Open process manager. Select the following and click “Kill process” for this one ....

    C:\Program Files\KService\KService.exe

Open HijackThis and click on Scan. Check the following entry .....

    O23 - Service: KService - Kontiki Inc. - C:\Program Files\KService\KService.exe

Please remember to close all other windows, including browsers, before clicking “Fix checked”.

Delete the following File indicated in bold IF it still exists ........

    C:\Program Files\KService\KService.exe

Reboot your System in normal mode.

If you have a fast internet connection (Broadband) run online scans here….

    http://www.pandasoftware.com/activescan/

    …and here…..

    http://housecall.trendmicro.com.

When running the Panda Activescan make sure you click the Free Online Virus Scan in the upper right hand corner of the page under the Free use Activescan header. We do NOT want the default spyXposer scan.

Once it has finished save the Activescan log. Then post that log in your next post.

Please run ALL the free scans offered by Housecall.

Make sure they both perform full system scans.

If either/both scans find something they cannot fix - perhaps because the infected files are "in use" - please make a note of the file(s) concerned and post the details back to this thread.

If you are still concerned about the number of programs running at startup you should post a HJT Startup list. This is a utility which creates a list of everything which starts up when you boot your computer plus a few other items. When run it creates a file named "StartupList.txt" and immediately opens this text file in Notepad.

Clicking the Config... button on the HJT Opening Screen takes you to the Main Page. Looking at the top you will find four buttons. Click the Misc Tools button at the far right.

You are now a new Page. Notice the three buttons in the middle area of the window. Click the Generate StartupList log button. A confirmation box will pop up. Click Yes.

The Startup list text file will now be generated and opened on the screen. Copy and paste the contents to this thread. NOTE >> due to the limitation on the number if characters in one post you may want to show the Startup list in a separate post.

Look in Task Manager. If you can see any particular process(es) running on your system which worry you then download and install Sysinternals Process Explorer here....

    http://www.sysinternals.com/Utilitie...sExplorer.html.

It gives more information than Task Manager. Double-click the process name and look on the Image tab for command line being used to run the process(es).

Post details of any process(es) of concern.

When you are done please post the following (either in one post or separate posts):

    > Activescan and Housecall files not fixed (if any)
    > Activescan log
    > Startup list IF you ran that utility
    > details of any running process(es) that concern you particularly
    > a fresh HijackThis log so that we can check if your system is clean.

    MOST IMPORTANTLY…..

Please also give us an update on how your system is operating now.

    Hi pchelpman

Wow that was a task and a half!!

I've done all that you said.

I killed kservice in hijack, and it didn't show following the scan, see log below.

Completed the active scan, but that found some stuff, see the log below.

Completed Housecall. After three scans, it got rid of everything.

I am running with 48 processes, see log below.

My pc is running faster!! Let me know what next.
