The wording of the policy does not neccessarily mean the claim will be declined as it has one exclusion for substance abuse/ drugs and a different exclusion for mental health conditions with the MH exclusion confirming cover is in place if it results in hospitalisation.

It is however subject to normal existing medical conditions.

If the Insurer did decline it there is a chance the Ombudsman may overturn the decision, however getting a judgement from the Ombudsman takes quite some time.

Dacouch - thank you so much for all the efforts you have gone to to review that policy for me.

Unfortunately, we have the Bronze cover, not the silver. But I will check on page 7, if I can view it properly on my PC to see if that section is like for like.

Many thanks for all your efforts.

My dad is emailing them today.

    Much appreciated.

Nicki I have not checked the bronze cover, I chose silver as its their mid priced policy.

I suspect the policy wording will be similar or laid out in a similar basis. Its quite a confusing policy wording. You need to read what is covered under "Cancellation / Curtailment" and then what is excluded under "Cancellation / Curtailment" and any general policy exclusions.

In order to get a claim accepted you are going to have to have a policy that accepts mental health problems and substance abuse.

Hi Luci - I have tried doing that but my eyesight is quite poor and it's a real hassle in trying to align the page so I read it all and make sure I've not missed any sections - will be better once I can print - but otherwise it's giving me a headache to look at

dacouch - it did look very similar - the two policies. I will try and read over the curtailment and cancellation section again, but I don't think I could see anything that explicitly relates to our predicament/claim - but I will have another stab at trying to read it again.

silvercar - are there any insurers that will provide this level of cover? we wouldn't be able to apply now anyway, and he has already been hospitalised so it would be a fraudulent claim I suppose.

Many thanks to all for their input on this issue - it's been really difficult in every respect.

Just awaiting a response from the TA and the insurer now.

    Many thanks.

You wouldn't be able to obtain insurance for something that has already happened, never mind getting as far as a fraudulent claim.
