I am a little bit confused.

At the moment he has been hospitalised for 7 days - today being his 7th day.

Because he has been sectioned, does this mean he automatically is branded as having a mental illness?

So far all the doctors have been elusive and we are still awaiting many answers, as we are aware, there hasn't even been a DIAGNOSIS made at this point.

I am 99.9% confident in saying that if he had not been under the influence of drugs then he would have not been sectioned, but because he was there could be no risk made to the public or himself.

He had the intentions of voluntarily going to the hospital. But because he went missing those "rights" were taken from him.

As it's been described to us, this is an isolated incident in which 4 years of grief has pent up and through his blind-sightedness and wrongful choice of being influenced by drugs, his actions were dictated by substance, not a mental illness - as such.

So I am a bit confused as to how you become labelled, for choice of a better word, as mentally ill.

One of my closest friends tried to commit suicide and 7 years on she is still receiving counselling but she has never had to disclose it when travelling or for jobs etc.

This is such a confusing situation!

It won't let me post links, but the policy we have is with: www . insurewithease . com

I can view the policy but the print is quite small, and my printer is bust atm, so am trying my best to read through it.

Again, this link is purposely broken up.

    The policy is: http : // www . moneysupermarket . com /travelinsurance/ policy/ IWE_Bronze_PW_170709.pdf

Many thanks again for all the suggestions provided.

If the insurer can't or won't pay out then at least we can rely on the 50% because a full refund will be lovely, but at the end of the day my brother's health comes first, and we'll take what we can get if needs be.

    Thanks again.

In my opinion, and it's just an opinion, the fact that he has been sectioned under the Mental Health Act will be regarded as have a mental health problem. I'm sure there are people who abuse drugs who aren't sectioned and don't seek help for mental health so aren't labelled as such.

As for your friend not "having" to disclose her previous history, if she had to cancel a holiday as a result of anything relating to mental health such as depression or anxiety, she would not be covered as she didn't declare it.

Jenhug - it's too short notice and it's a lot of money it's like £1100+ per person and also having time off work etc.

As mentioned earlier if we get 50% minimum then that's good enough for us.

Will just call the insurer tomorrow and see what they say.

    Many thanks.

if you are not sharing accomodation with them you could ebay the tickets? buy it now, meet them at the air port? (sorry not much of a traveller, I wouldn't know how this would work)

Jenhug - we've thought about this - but that's a lot of risk resting on someone and a lot of trust, plus I don't think you can resell the accommodation or flights - which could then just entangle us in another mess possibly.

So we will just see how we get on.

You can't sell fllights or holidays on eBay unless you are a travel agent.

OK reading that and the policy it looks like it will be covered seeing as he was admitted to hospital as an in-patient.
