You can have just a basic car stereo and anything can be played through it.
The one I bought had good stereo seperation and far better than a casette adaptor.
Type in fm modulator to ebay and have a look.
Thanks haveagoade. I did that and got a good one, I hope. I'll let you know when it arrivesde do-do-do, de dar-dar-dar0 -
Are there any car stereos that just take the jack plug, I mean can you plug in the car stereo via the 3.5mm jack plug so that the actual ipod or iriver or whatever is the actual player and you plug that straight into the car stereo so that the car stereo doesnt take discs or anything its your mp3 player thats the stereo but it just plugs into the car radio for amplification and speakers.0

But doesnt need CDs as it runs off the mp3 player only (sorry if I dont explain myselfy) as even I cant figure out a sure way of explaining I mean it would just basically be a box with a jack socket and no stereo front as the mp3 player is the stereo and the box just amplifies the sound.
I may have inadvertently just invented a new gizmo.
P.S thats a nice stereo and as I need a new one thats the one I shall get, Thanks S_G0 -
never seen one that only has a jack plug and no stereo interface.. unless you can get a radio only with an aux input.0

I think it would be quite a nice idea as then you can take out the mp3 player and use as a personal stereo after a car journey so two uses instead of lots of stereos that have one use.
Im convinced0 -
would also stop friends bringing along their crap CD's and insist on playing them0

And carrying a big bulky detatchable front display.0

If you go the fm modulator way you can have a real clunky stereo radio and plug everthing into it. Some old clunky cassette radios have good amplication and speakers, stick a modulator on and its an mp3 player, usb reader cd/dvd player whatever you want!0

Many car stereos have an auxiliary input, which usually comprises two photo connectors (red and white). Connect a lead with 2xphonos to 3.5mm plug (like this http://www.maplin.co.uk/Module.aspx?ModuleNo=31700&criteria=phono%20to%203.5%20lead&doy=30m4) and you are laughing.
